Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 3
I get not wanting to trade Maxey for Dame.
What makes zero sense is not wanting to trade Harden for Lavine + or Siakam (for example). That is ridiculous considering Harden being a flat out loser despite being on numerous teams talented enough to win it all throughout his career.

I kinda feel like LaVine is a bigger loser
I'd consider it though.
Don't like the fit of Siakam with Embiid at all, but if it was a straight up swap (hard to imagine it would be), sure.

I'd trade Harden stuff for Siakam.

If it's not gonna be a thing where we're dealing with constant rumors and an unhappy Harden, I'm fine with him sticking around, presuming there aren't any good deals on the table.

Yeah, I just don't think we can really be picky here. At this point, if it's a player that can get you buckets, and is a top 20-30 scorer, you just do it, better than just praying that we're going to be able to sign a FA, even though we haven't been able to since Bynum, and we all know how that turned out.

If this is the critical move, I think it’s gotta be an ascending player. And I think that player is Brown. Could he be a 30 ppg scorer away from Tatum and if Embiid sacrifices a bit? If so, I think prying Brown from the Celtics is the key.
Agree. He's the only player we could conceivably get who I would invest in and build around a Brown/Embiid core, even if it cost us Maxey.
I'm 100% out on Jaylen Brown. Turnover machine, can't go left, has complete brain farts on defense on the regular, and isn't particularly efficient scoring either. If he played at all like a 2nd team all star in the playoffs last year, they beat the Heat. Oh, and he's getting a supermax so good luck even finding reasonable rotation players to fill around him. No thank you.

It’s certainly possible. But we know with 1000% certainty that any team relying on James Harden is winning absolutely nothing. There is no chance in hell that guy ever wins anything of significance, EVER.
The only thing we know about Lavine is that he’s definitely not a #1, but *theoretically* he wouldn’t have to be here. He’s also never been on a team with a legit shot. See Booker, Devin.

That is the non taxpayer MLE and you can only use it if your payroll, including minimum salaries for empty spots, is below the tax line. Teams are limited to the amount they are below the tax line, so must be 12.5 million below the tax line to use it and can't exceed the tax line with a subsequent signing once it is used.
There is a smaller taxpayer MLE around half that size which taxpaying teams can use unless they are up against the first tax apron or past the second apron.
We are not 12.5 million below the tax line, so it is not fully available to the Sixers right now.

I think they only get a partial amount because they're not enough under the luxury tax

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 3
I’d trade for LaVine for the theoretical aspect as he’s young and doesn’t step on any toes. Siakam takes up the same space as Biid and again I don’t think they like each other that much even if it’s just a I want to be the best from my country level thing. That’s the issue with Tobias tho it’s why his best games are without Biid…. They both need that mid range space to thrive…. Feel like even if Siakam is better at it it’s the same issue at the end of the day

This is the big reason I don’t want anything to do with Harden this year. He’s gonna be playing the media game 24/7 because it’s a contract year for him & he’s too proud to admit he’s a $30M player now & not a $50M player. He did it last year & will do it again but probably in a more disruptive fashion this time.

Right, Tobias would definitely need to go for a quick shooter if they acquired Siakim.

Pascal is a much better playmaker than Tobias & gets to the line which is why I think it would work. Tobias has always been an awkward fit because he can’t create for others & isn’t good enough to justify a role outside of catch & shoot.
And ideally a real coach will hopefully have some motion & variety to our offense so it won’t just be Siakim & Embiid standing around like idiots waiting for the ball. If we trade Harden for another star, Pascal has enough secondary playmaking skills to run some interesting looks. You can then run Siakim/Maxey actions, Siakim/Embiid PnR, DHOs with either guy, etc. I think he’d actually be a really good fit & we can guarantee he won’t elbow Embiid in the face in a 1st round series.

Agree, don't want anyone that doesn't want to be here. It'd be different if he listed a few teams but seeing as he's Miami or bust. Hard pass

Those are all good points. My post was based on the fact that he's the only young and potentially ascending player out of all these potential "star" additions. My preference is still a reset year and accumulate draft capital.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 3
If the Sixers could somehow get Lavine and Derozan without giving up Maxey, I could see that being something Morey tries to pull off. Don't know how it would all fit together, but at least you'd have two excellent perimeter scorers to take the load off.
