I do agree that all they had to do was trade that pick for the best vet they could get then re-sign Grant, match Thy, and maybe flip Simons/Nurkic for better fits or as part of the trading the third pick and Dame probably stays.

Personally, I’d trade him to the Nets for a bunch of picks and take Simmons as part of the salary match to maximize the picks I’m getting. Nets would do it because they would know Bridges could talk him into showing up and if they don’t lose any actual players in the trade it gets them into the top four in the east.

Nobody was going to trade a difference maker to Portland if they think there’s a chance they could trade for Lillard. That late first might have gotten them a DeAnthony Melton level player.

I’m talking trading the third pick + Simmons for the best vet they could. Bucks would likely have done Jrue for that (according to many on here) Dame/Jrue/Thy/Grant is a nice start to keep Dame happy before other moves.

Yeah the Bucks would have done that but to me that’s not a good enough player to trade that pick for. Especially once Charlotte picked Miller — I wouldn’t give up Scoot for Jrue/Siakam type players, regardless of Lillard’s situation.

Anyone else having ESPN showing Sportscenter instead of Blazers/Rockets?

Herro and Robinson is an awful package. He's not Ben Simmons, but Robinson is a negative asset at this point. But, Herro, Caleb Martin, Jaime Jaquez and Jovic and a couple picks is in a vacuum I think pretty good value. The issue is that Herro is less valuable to Portland than he is to perhaps any other team in the league.

Srill not enough as i dont think pirtland values either jaquez or jovic could be wrong.
I want bam martin n herro n a 1st no get that miami no get dame

To me it seems that Miami is the strongest team which is part of a state that has no State Income tax, and that is the reason why Dame only wants to play in Miami, Florida. He saves a ton of money that way.

Dame could’ve passed on the 2 year extension and Portland would’ve gotten nothing for him. If Giannis wanted out at 33 to go to a contender, I’d be totally fine with it.

What if Giannis wanted out but demanded it be to one team who was only willing to give you some combination of Tyler Herro, the corpse of Kyle Lowry, Duncan Robinson, and a bunch of late firsts/garbage swaps? Then you asked for Martin and their last two draftees and they said no while Giannis’ agent tightened the screws by saying he would be unhappy anywhere else to strip you of the leverage to actually get the three semi-useful assets that you would want in the deal?

Because I get the vibe the Heat don’t want to give up anything besides picks and some combo of Herro/Robinson/Lowry and are trying to leverage Dame refusing to go anywhere else.

Heat dont want to give up anything they basically want him for free which is what that package is anyway

Houston has been tanking for three years, why is their summer league team full of random guys? Where is the talent they’ve been drafting?

Honestly would not care. Especially when the alternative would’ve been him just walking and getting nothing in return. It’s not like that return is Marcus Morris, Batum and some seconds.

Portland drafted Dame’s replacement 3rd overall this year. They already shot themselves in the foot.

Dame is under contract for 5 years so would you feel different if giannis had 3 years left and started doing this

I would not do it at all either way. In that case if Giannis just wanted to walk then I would rather have nothing in return that those horrible contracts. A ton of picks with a mixture of young talent on rookie deals or a star in return.

He’s under contract because he signed an extension when he could’ve bounced. When Giannis is 33 I won’t be mad at him for ring chasing. It’s 2023, it’s a massive accomplishment to even play 10 years with the same team.

I just don’t understand the hatred for Dame when the team he is on isn’t competing for a ring and used their best asset on his replacement. The moment they drafted Scoot is was done, there were tons of reports of LA offering George for #3 and Portland turned it down. I just question the front office that created this Dame/Simons/Scoot/Sharpe dilemma. How did they not see this coming? Why would they think Dame would just go wherever?
