Four young athletic players who are complete or relative bargains left go by a team trying to avoid paying the tax while paying more than their entire salaries combined to PJ Tucker.
That is utterly terrible roster building and construction especially for a team that seems to be retooling around a Maxey-Embiid core. Literal malpractice by the front office with few draft assets to replace them. And now in danger of losing Paul Reed, it’s so damn stupid, sigh…
PJ Tucker at 38 gets three guaranteed years at $13 million per and the rationalization was that the team needed toughness. You can sign a Haslem or Jeff Green type for cheap if you need someone to give your stars a pep talk, but this was just dumb.
Tucker. Patrick Bev. Harden. Harrell. Tobias. House. It’s just mostly older guys who, if we are lucky, may resemble somewhat of their former selves, but in all likelihood, they will continue to decline… and aside from Harden their primes weren’t that good.
The only rotation players younger than Embiid are Maxey and Melton. And he prob wants to move them for Lillard or somebody. Reed, McDaniels, Joe, Bassey, etc are too young and cheap, so we don’t have interest.
When you only acquire players who are assured to continually get worse, and trade picks to get them, it is not long before you have an aged team with little to build a future with.
