Oh my god we’re going to sign Bol
at least he’ll make for some fun garbage time minutes. I’d probably prefer to cut Ish at this point.

If you're gonna get a side show who people only like because he looks funny, at least make it Boban, who seems like a genuinely great teammate.

If Suns went into season with this 15 man roster, looming tax bill would be just under $75mil.
The problem appears to be next year. Between the top 4 salaries, the jump in payroll costs not considering tax, is around $24 million.
I am not sure how much they are over the tax line (or will be), but they may average like $4 per incremental $1 if they are like $25 million over already, and if that's the case, the tax could be an additional $100 million or so.
That may be a primary reason they try and trade Ayton before next year at least, just to take back less in salary to reduce the tax bill.

I mean if there's a way to make the team better by doing that then ok but like...it really doesnt seem like Ishbia cares about the tax bill lol

Is he better than Wainright? YES, plain and simple.
As a third string PF he is an upgrade. He has shown potential, he is skilled and you can't teach height/length.
1-15 every player matters and he give us more versatility at PF/C.

Frank Lee wrote:The credit CP gets for taking a team that was already making a strong turn upwards is shading Book, Bridges, CamJo and Ayton’s collective progression. Chuck Chowder is overlooked here too.
I know I know … nba finals, our best record…blah blah. Both with reasonable taints. CP was an important piece, but that squad had enough talent to make the playoffs, and who knows, given the injury voodoo curse we had on our side????
CP grabbed onto coat tails as much as the reigns.
Thats why he came here
His time here will forever be tainted by the slaughters and back door sweep where he was ineffective. NBA history is written with the playoff pen.
CP is our own General Custer, with two little big horns under his belt
PS… come on Weak… do you forget the demon KJ was ??? We got his best yrs here, where as CP gave us his final ones
Yeah, KJ gets traded here during a 28 win season as a rookie and leads the team to the WCF the next 2 years. Being beaten badly by the Showtime Lakers the first time (but KJ is in his 2nd year averaging 20 and 12 with 1.7 spg on over 50% shooting). The Lakers win it all that year and the following year Magic wins MVP and we take out the defending champion Lakers in 5 in the 2nd round, and lose to Portland in the WCF, but were banged up.
Talking about what they did for the franchise and where we had been, these were not long after the taint of the Cocaine scandal and all that.
There was Suns fever, BABY!
"If fans had a fever, the only prescription is more Suns ball!"
WG may have not been a Suns fan at that time, or maybe before his time following the NBA much at all. I was just really starting to follow it around that time.

yeah i dont really get this one either, would rather have had Bismack back or even Kaminsky, but for someone at the end of the bench that rarely plays which all three of those guys would be, this is fine i guess

Bol Bol and his novelty act coming to AZ. Only way he comes to Phx is if it’s a non guaranteed contract. Don’t see him making it a full season till he’s cut.
I am such a lucky NBA fan. 8647 My favorite team went from the most greedy and racist owner to the most ego driven dumbass owner in all of sports fdt.

Yeah, I was just actually looking at his net worth. 6.3 billion according to a quick search. How much of that is liquid I don't know.
But then there is revenue sharing. I don't know the split but it is somewhere around 50/50 I think. I don't know if we have a profit before accounting for taxes. But aside from a tax bill maybe somewhere between $150 and $200 million, there is the possibility of a repeater tax.
At this point it seems like it would be awfully hard to get under the tax and avoid that though.
I won't be surprised if we trade Ayton for expirings this year or something and then try to get a decent C near the tax MLE or minimum next year.
But heck, hopefully he wants to pay the tax. I certainly don't care...it just seems pretty hefty if after $75 million this coming year, he'd more than double that next year.
But, if he is the type that know he doesn't need that much and puts the team and this new investment ahead of how much other net worth he has, it makes sense. Amazon, for example, doesn't care if they have a billion dollar loss if they know they are expanding operations and building infrastructure in India, because for the long term, it will pay off big time.
This could just move our team to the upper echelon and pay off in other ways, provide new revenue streams, attract investors, have such demand ticket prices rise, but maybe mainly executive suite prices, advertisers, etc...and then value of team.

Probably just pipe dream trades with Ayton and Indiana
Ayton for TJ and Turner. Would save 2.5 this year and TJ has a small guarantee next year
Ayton Payne Ish for Hield and Turner

Someone in the FO is definitely talking to Gambo. Dude has called literally every single signing days before it happened and knew we would not trade Ayton. I wonder who the guy is? Has to be Ishbia or one of his new guys

We know who is Wainright as a player.
In his two years on the team he has shown that he is nice guy but a very limited player who isn't good at anything. What's his best skill?
Everyone wanted to see in him a new PJ Tucker but that's not the case.
Bol Bol is 23 years old and his ridiculous length + skills make him potentially an impactful player. Good idea to take a flyer on him for the minimum.

If youre gonna say you wanna take a flyer because he has an upside that Ish doesnt have, thats one thing and a reasonable take. Saying hes better than Ish now is another. Ish is not someone I want in a rotation on a good team but to win a game today, he provides comparitively better defense and floor spacing, which I think are going to better contribute to winning than Bol's extra dunk or block per game.
