Re: Summer league 2023
Just watched the game. What a crappy finish. All that guy has to do is dribble out the clock or dish it off to Sharpe who can make a free throw if fouled. Tossing that lob just cost them the game. Oh wait, Murray fronting Smith cost them the game, as well. What was he doing? Murray did not impress me tonight.
Any word on Scoot yet? I liked Thompson, as well. About to start the Spurs/Hornets game now.

I'm not sure whether it's his handle, or first step that is holding him back. This was apparent today (less important), but also apparent throughout last season too.
He's still a great prospect, who I'm very excited about.
Yeah, Sharpe does not have the best first step, which will be a problem long-term, but he simultaneously has a great second/third step and insane vertical pop. I think those should make up for his first step issues, especially once he develops a stronger handle. Either way, there are ways players can navigate out of a lackluster first step, and I think it's possible for one to improve their first step? (Not sure about this, someone has to confirm or clarify that part.)

Can we get a Thank You card for Scoot?
We really suck at this draft thing.
Brandon Miller looks great I honestly think the Hornets made the right move. Long wing players like Tatum and PG put you into contender status. Honestly was 50/50 on who I was hoping would be there at 3 cause I feel Sharpe and Miller would be a lethal wing combo to have on your team.
I’m actually lowkey jealous because of what a talent Miller is, looks like a PG clone. Athleticism is the biggest question along with finishing at the rim. Great defense, has a whole bag of moves off the dribble at that height, big time 3 point shooter off the dribble/catch and shoot. He also is a great rebounder at SF with a lot of upside on defense. If Wemby by doesn’t live up to the hype I can see him being the best player in this draft class.

Whoa, I think I was higher than most on Miller but I don't see a world where he is a top 3 player in this draft. I also don't see a world where he worse than top 6. So I definitely get the love.

1. Yes, he should have dribbled out the clock or dished to Sharpe. Very low IQ play.
2. Yes, Murray should have been between the hoop and the shooter (Smith). There was no reason to front.
3. With 0.6 left, Sharpe should have stepped up on the shooter or at least got hands ups. He did neither. He stood 3-5 feet back and watched the shot. This was poor coaching and low player IQ. Very disappointing.

Thoughts on Badji? Is this a wasted 2 way or does he have a shot at contributing backup minutes towards seasons end? Do we have any interest in bring Moses Brown back?

Scoot and Amen both looked like men against boys.
I think we got the next top 5 pg in the league where Amen is more a 1/2 tweener and that alone I’m happy with our choice. With that said, holy **** Amen could be an all star too.
Miller looks like a really small 6’9” to me, must just be the way he plays. Hit a couple 3’s I didn’t see enough to make a judgement either way. Wemby looks overhyped to me, at least when it comes to being “NBA- ready”. He looks to be the full definition of a project, offensively.

I think I was most impressed with scoot and amen on the defensive end, just menaces out their hands everywhere. Amen was very impressive with his court vision and passing ability where scoot looks like he’s gonna be a handful in the open court. With him and sharpe both have some real work to do in the half court but have very nice foundations to work with.
As far as wemby I wouldn’t get too carried away with this summer league, it’s quite literally the worst environment for big men to showcase their skill set. There is no structure or spacing and majority are out there trying to get theirs to get looked at. Shooting was ugly but I think we got enough of a sample size to know that should fix itself. I’m sure he’s gonna have some adjusting but I’d bet he’s one of the better big men in the league by the end of year 1

At least somewhat interesting jaquez is not playing today, likely means nothing but could mean something I guess. I do like jovic as a filler in a trade. Looks like he could develop into a do it all forward doesn’t seem to have a stand out skill but can do a little bit of everything

Re: Summer league 2023
I really like Jovic I spoke too soon about his defense he seems like a gallo clone. It would be a disgrace if he’s not in the Heat trade.
I feel like him and Scoot could be similar to what the Kings have in Sabonis and Fox. We would be a great speed up tempo team with those two pushing it on misses.

For some reason Portland is always really poor with updating fans on injury scan results/updates.
Do they not realise that Scoot is helping to really offset the Dame drama this offseason...

I read earlier it was already positive for he avoided a dislocation, I’m guessing the mri is completely cautionary

The fact that it was "that guy" and not anyone who's name We'd bother to learn tells you all you need to know about the value of wins and losses at summer league. If the Blazers' coaches wanted to win that game they would have taken some sort of action to make sure that "that guy" was aware that conservative play down the stretch was important to ensure they won. Instead "that guy" ended up running an alley oops and they lost as a result.

To be fair, the team will have lots of “teaching moments” this season haha. Something tells me it won’t be the last single point meltdown loss we’ll face.

I'll say this again...the Blazers would be HOSED right now if Charlotte had chosen Scoot.
Currently watching Castleton make Miller look like he should have been a 2nd rounder.

Quite possibly Portland would have taken Amen at 3 if Charlotte had taken Scoot

Taking amen at 3 wouldn't have been shocking at all. In fact all indications were even as things things turned out amen was very high on our list to the point that Cronin likely viewed this as a "top 4 draft." I think taking amen at 3 was very strongly considered even over Scoot but in the end by a slight margin Scoot was the better player in the eyes of cronin and co (rightfully so, I was hoping they wouldn't pass on Scoot who seemingly has a couple less holes in his game). Amen is more of a roll of the dice on potential but if that potential is realized and he gets a jump shot man watch out!
Personally I think our order was wemby (duh) Scoot Miller and amen but it wouldn't be remotely shocking if amen was 1 spot higher above Miller.

Agreed. Amen looks to be the same draft tier as Scoot or Miller.
Amen's fit would be even better in Portland than Scoot, as he can play point next to Ant and cover his defensive shortcomings, or fit seamlessly in an Ant/Sharpe/Amen lineup and maximize all the young talent.

Re: Summer league 2023
Rockets have some players. I actually think they’re going to be a bit better than people expect next year. I can definitely see them surprising teams next season. Brooks is a dummy, but they have an interesting mix of really talented and athletic young guys and FVV I think will be super great steadying force for them. If they’re all healthy, I could see them being a high 30 almost 40 win team.

God Cronin was an idiot for not getting Wiseman out of that GP deal (or **** Jody / Burt for blocking it for financial reasons, whichever the reasons)
