4 years in the contract might look okay relative to cap, if he stays healthy, and if he continues to perform at the level he did in Detroit and Portland the last three seasons. It's upsetting to see a team do something so self-destructive, even if it isn't my favorite team.

No thank you. Kings don't need a guy like Grant, who could/would be option #4-5 on offense and he doesn't rebound. I mean Lyles almost rebounded more than him (4.1 vs 4.5) last season and he got 16mpg vs 35mpg. Barnes had the same rebounding numbers with less minutes as well.
A Kings trade like this would need to bring back a defender and rebounder that doesn't care about his offensive numbers but can hit an open shot.

Well, guess I was wrong about this being like the FVV deal with an unreported TO so Klutch can flex

Think they could do better than that honestly. Starting to come around on this dealMoneyTalks41890 wrote:Harrison Barnes, Trey Lyles for Grant at the deadline.

Grant is going to be one of the 15 highest-paid players in the NBA next season while being a top 50-75 player (at best, IMO).
Edit: my brain is not functional because I'm working so much. I'm my head this was 50 million a year. It's 30 million. It's still bad but it isn't catastrophic and I think will be a reasonable amount (but still a bit of an overpay) after the cap spike.

No real knowledge..
Maybe the player option was the only way Portland could get Grant to agree to a descending contract?

Re: [Shams] Jerami Grant resigns with Portland (160/5)
Miami doesn’t have the assets for Dame, but that’s where Portland is eventually going to have to deal him. Maybe they can salvage something by forcing Miami to take Nurkic and Grant once he becomes eligible to be moved.
Lowry/Robinson/Herro/Martin/Jovic/Jazuez Jr/the 2 future picks is enough salary to match all 3, I think.
6 for 3 deals are somewhat tough to do mid year, so Portland would have to be open to waiving 3 guys. And it will challenge Miami since they won’t be able to sign buyout guys with the 2nd apron, but Miami still has:
Dame / JRich
Butler
Grant / Highsmith
Bam
Love / Nurkic
For a playoff rotation

He's better than Oubre, but Oubre is a similar archetype who can also get volume stats and still has not gotten an MLE offer. I don't think his archetype is as rare as it was 5 years ago. With traditional power forwards gone there are lots of switchy 6-7 and taller guys.

I don't think the two are really comperable at all tbh

Oubre is low iq fools good.
Grant is nothing special but he’s a tier better than Oubre.

Of course Grant is better. But you could get a disruptive defender who takes a larger role on offense than they should for 5 million instead of 50 million. While Grant is quite a bit better the difference is way smaller than the difference between say... Grant and Paul George, who he is paid much more than right now. Contracts are going to inflate, but this has Jerami at, IMO close to double his value.

Agreed.
The contract is indefensible.
It’s all nba Money for a guy who will never sniff an all nba team.

Tobias's contract was higher than Grant's and even this season will earn more. It's not a great contract but it isn't Tobias Harris bad.

It's well short of a max, so how is it all-nba money?

Tobias is a better basketball player... so I'd put the contracts as equally bad.

As a percentage of the salary cap it's quite a bit less than Tobias's contract. Another difference is that Grant signing his contract hasn't caused the loss of an all NBA player like Tobias's contract did. Remember Tobias's contract caused Butler to leave the 76ers. Plus I fully expect Gran's contract to be tradable for at least a small asset at the deadline.

Not close. Tobias was 30% of the cap, this is 20% of the cap. Tobias was paid 50% more.
