Dave Roberts: Pursuing Right-Handed Bat \'Makes Sense\' For Dodgers

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jul 6, 2023 1:30 pm

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to add to the roster ahead of the trade deadline.

The Dodgers enter Thursday 1.5 games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West. They hold the second of three Wild Card berths.

Dave Roberts suggested that adding a right-handed bat would help the club.

\"I think a right-handed bat makes sense,\" the manager said.

You beat me to it. The offseason they didn't address pitching and now they want to add more hitting and not focus on pitching? Dodgers going to choke again this year unfortunately. The Braves look like the team to beat in the NL.

The Dodgers need pitching, not really specifically a right handed pitcher.

But, they do need a right handed bat because they struggle vs lefties. Their lineup is predominantly lefties:

Heyward (L)
Muncy (L)
Peralta (L)
Outman (L)
Freeman (L)

Betts (R)
JD (R)
Smith (R)

The first 4 lefties can’t hit left handed pitching at all. There are only 3 trustworthy righties on our roster right now.

The other righties on the roster suck right now or are unreliable:

Thompson (R)
Vargas (R)
Rojas (R)
Taylor (R)
Barnes (R)
DeLuca (R)

They don’t want to go into the playoffs with only 3 producing right handed bats. Teams will just throw lefties against us all day.

Does he not realize that bats are ambidextrous? You can buy them at any sporting goods store. I think the Dodgers need a new equipment manager...

Yeah that's also a good point too. I think Dodgers should trade Chris Taylor and see what they can get for him.

Vargas is already optioned, CT3 is coming back but it's nearly impossible to find a team to take him right now, he has 2 more years left on his contract after this season.
My guess is that we will try to trade Michael Busch to acquire a middle infielder, unfortunately none of the potentially available guys are having an inspiring season (Anderson, Adames, DeJong)

My guess is Friedman would probably go after Adames since he likes players that have ties to the Rays.
