Devoe is not the kind of PG that I like. He has zero gravity with the ball in his hands...he can get points going to the rim, but he doesn't make anybody around him better. Give me Mays as a Scoot backup every day of the week.

I think that ship has sailed. If the Blazers had any interest in May's, wouldn't he be on their Summer League team?

I think he may be too old…but yeah, that ship has probably sailed.

There's no age limit for summer league.
This year, there's a bunch of dudes who are almost 30.

Oh I guess you’re right…they define “vet”partially by whether a player is currently under contract. I have no idea if that includes Mays…

Not picking up Castleton is going to drive me to drink.

Dude would easily be our #2 C this year - hell even starter if we went full tank. Kid is for real. Think he is a Hartenstein level guy in the end.

100% agree. With all our future seconds I can't believe we didn't move into th bottom to grab Castleton or TJD. I'm betting we kept the assets in case we needed them to use to appease Dame. If he had put in his trade request before the draft I bet this team look very different. We could have likely landed Whitmore at the minimum and probably a guy like Hendricks, Clowney or Walker too. Oh well, I just want picks, expirings and a long term starter. I've been warming on Ben Simmons too, he could start opposite of Grant and could regain some of his value. What if Herro + goes to Brooklyn and we get Simmons + Clowney + JJJ and Jovic along with 4 picks? It's not perfect but sets up the rebuild.

I would be fine w/ that return assuming Nurkic goes out and Lowry comes in as well (We just buy him out IMO).

Currently feeling bummed that the Blazers passed on the player I wanted at 23--Leonard Miller--he's looked awesome so far.

Murray, can of course still be fine...but he's looking pretty 'meh'. Just disappears on the court. Some of that may be because that's what ALL SFs do when they play for the Blazers.

EDIT: And just saw that Minny gave Miller a 4 year deal. :banghead:

Murray doesn’t have the first step or athleticism to play like he did in college, where he was a bit of a jack of all trades on offense.

That said, he’s good at shooting the 3 when squared up, especially when receiving a pass from the interior, and has a ton of defensive versatility and potential with his length, strength, and positional awareness. He has solid 3 and D potential given time.

But I do agree that Leonard Miller could pan out to be the better player.

Agreed...there's also the matter of positional fit for a rebuilding team. Swiss army knives are helpful connecting pieces for contenders, whereas the Blazers are in a place where they are still finding cornerstones--especially in the frontcourt. Granted, if Cronin is to be believed, he has only started "rebuilding" once Lillard requested a trade, but his track record of moves belies that.

Regardless, Miller so far is tracking to be a starting level player on a bad team and a bench player on a good team. Murray on the other hand is breaking the rule of "have an NBA skill"...it's hard to know if he'll have an NBA job in 5 years.

Way too early to count out Kris. He is the type that will look better w/ more structure IMO. SL is meaningless for the most part.

I preferred Leonard as well, but I am also not buying that 3PT shot of his. He is making some now but jesus its wonky.

That a good point about positional fit… especially on a rebuilding team, he might take it upon himself to do a little too much. Being a Swiss Army knife on defense could help him shine, but it could lead to some train wreck offensive possessions.

You’re spot on that he needs to showcase an NBA essential skill… His college performance suggests he has an NBA-ready spot up 3 (with extended range)… BUT he will need to adjust his college play style of being a primary option and doing primary option things and commit to a spot up role if he’s going to be successful. As well as improve his shooting when defenses get a hand in his face. Very do-able, but If tries to be much more than a spot up 3 shooter, especially on a rebuilding team, then I agree he probably won’t get that second contract.

I'm definitely not counting Murray out...he's got time to figure out a niche. He was my second favorite after Miller at 23.

Miller's shot doesn't look that weird to me. Sure it's a bit of a push shot, but mostly it's inconsistent as all getout. The thing that has impressed me the most about Miller though is his passing and his second jump. Anyway, water on the bridge...

Shae and Murray were awesome. Badji looked… not great. Davoe was steady again.

Is Reath the backup center or is he a guard?

Reath is the backup center. Looked pretty solid for summer league, probably won't make the cut. For a second there, I thought I was seeing ZBo from behind :)

Devoe continued to impress me as a 3rd string PG candidate. Cool and poised, low mistake, great intuitive passer, especially off drive and dish to the corners.
Based on those two games, I'm hoping he gets a camp invite.
While we have a logjam for guard minutes, if Scoot or Ant gets injured, we could use him on the second team for a bit .
