FWIW JD is so far leading SL again in assists/game.

As anybody that has played a decent amount of pickup knows, it's not that easy to run a coherent offense with a bunch of guys that have barely met. JD deserves some credit for doing that two seasons in a row even if he's been way too sloppy with the ball the last game.

So is it too much to ask to start JD/Banton/Walsh/Valerio-Bobon/Balcerowksi?

Karalis suggests that the Cs playing zone defense in SL means that the Cs are going to play zone defense during the season...

4th in pace-adjusted assists per game for his one season as a very young guy in the g-league too.

Last year in SL he had a lot of great lobs to Kabengele. This year he seems to be pounding the air out of the ball a lot more and then finding someone who hits a shot, but not as a direct result of being “passed open”. Less impactful assists, is what I’m trying to say.

And at least three times in SL game #2 he tried to hit Azubuike on the move in space, which 10 seconds of being on the court with that guy should tell you is NOT going to work.

Will be curious to see what happens if Banton indeed plays game 3. Does Banton take minutes — and maybe primary PG duties — from JD? Do they share the court together? If so, is one of them off ball?

Yeah, last year JD not only had good chemistry with Kabengele (throwing lobs to him) but he also had good chemistry with Begarin - they were both really running in transition, pushing the pace. JD threw some lobs to Begarin too.

The 3 of them were fun to watch together.

Seems pretty unlikely they would start Valerio-Bodon, after he got DNP-CD in each of the first 2 games.

How many former Butler players transitioned into coaching via video duties can one coaching staff absorb without it setting their young players back?

(Okay, I exaggerate.)

Is Dobbins a former Butler player? I admittedly know nothing about him beyond what he looks like and that (per Karalis) he’s been a pretty quiet dude in Boston so far.

It's not easy getting 10 turn overs in a game, but he has managed to do that as well. So there's that.

No, University of Richmond. And he was a longtime pro in Europe in between. He did join Brad's staff via the video room, however.

This was the C's not overly qualified coaching staff last year:

Joe Mazzulla Head Coach
Aaron Miles Assistant Coach
Tony Dobbins Assistant Coach
DJ MacLeay Assistant Coach
Ty Yeaton Head Strength & Conditioning Coach
Craig Luschenat Player Enhancement Coach
Steve Tchiengang Player Enhancement Coach
Matt Reynolds Special Assistant to Head Coach

Perhaps most relevant to JD's experience last year, however, the Maine C's had a former Butler player and C's video guy as a first-time head coach:
