Read on Twitter

Computer, enhance:
Siakam and Anunoby are very good -- Siakam is an All-Star -- but would either have vaulted Portland into the ring of championship favorites?

That comment is Zach Lowes thought. The actual comment about refusing the trade is:

The New Orleans Pelicans and Toronto Raptors weren't ready on draft day to pivot away from Zion Williamson, Pascal Siakam, or O.G. Anunoby, sources have said.

Those are two independent sentences.

No NBA news anywhere, no wemby or scoot to watch, no NBA news, the offseason is officially at it's peak

If the report was, "Portland was not interested in giving up the 3rd pick for Pascal or OG" The majority here would have a different narrative and say, see, we couldn't get it.

But since the report makes us look bad, we deny it

I think we have to keep in mind that when Bobby was asked about the 3rd pick being in play he answered by saying "you need to ask them" ie ask Portland. This whole narrative that the raps were unwilling to part with X player is not the entire truth. If Portland said yeah 3rd for OG let's make it happen, clearly we would have done it.

I have a feeling it was we want OG or Siakam! plus barnes and a future 1st....That way they can then say well we tried for OG and PS but Toronto was unwilling to do it! Sorry Dame

Portland was never trading this pick... like never. Unless Luka, Tatum, or SGA were suddenly available this wasn't happening.

No doubt. It's the same group that's absolutely appalled at tanking and disgusted by 10% odds but advertise waiting for another once a lifetime Kawhi trade.

Here is the unfortunate truth, I think.

The Raptors were already negotiating from a position of weakness IMO, for whatever reason. Look no further than the crappy offers at the deadline. Raptors are in business but ..Luke Kennard ?

Now, the media on both sides of the border are going full on attack mode. They are calling out much of what we saw this year and years prior; poor cap management, poor asset management, poor roster construction, poor culture, no development prospects and a general lack of direction.

The negative sentiment is strong and other GMs see this. They likely recognize that Raptors weak positioning became even weaker once Fred walked.

Masai is backed into a corner. He is likely being offered scraps so I’m gonna assume Pascal stays. At the very least, he will wait until the media turns their focus to something else.

Something like this would have worked out....I would have done it to pair Scoot/Barnes at all costs now we could lose them both for nothing potentially lol

So basically Cronin wanted us to destroy our entire franchise for an unproven point guard?

How do you keep churning out this drivel? The poster you're quoting is sharing a trade that he (the poster) would have supported. The leap to your comment is amazing, even by the standards of this board. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

It’s why most of us did not buy Masai’s comments at all when he implied that the market would be stronger for Siakam and OG in the off season.

It’s pure BS lol.

Players value don’t get better when they’re an expiring contract unless they’re used as salary fodder to relieve some cap that following off season.

Not exploring a trade of OG for the #3 pick is nonsense? This is extreme homerism

Portland GM went on record in his offseason presser that they were going to explore all options including trading the pick to get Dame some help. But then they moved up and it started to look like Scoot might fall to them.

I submit that Portland had zero intention of trading that pick once they thought they might get Scoot. Saying Zion, Pascal, and OG weren't available helps cover their ass for the broken promise to Dame. Also, it's in Raptors and Pelicans best interest to make someone like Zach believe their guys weren't available given no deal transpired.

In short, I doubt there was serious discussion from Portland's end and as a result ours. The idea that we wouldn't have traded any of our guys for Scoot is just dumb. Our FO has made mistakes the last few years, but they're not outright dumb.

I almost thought big news dropped the past few days. Nope. 30 pages of mostly speculation and/or misinformation then the fallout of posters going back and forth at each other.
