I don't get that comp at all (not from you, I know)

Okeke never could dribble like Jett and sometimes shoots with his offhand completely off the ball

They play NOTHING alike.

When people get mad at picks it becomes Elfrid, Okeke, etc lol

We needed shooting and we got a shooter who can create on the ball. I really enjoy watching Jett play. He doesn’t seem to get sped up. He has a smooth, almost sleepy movement.

Black’s shot was always going to require a complete overhaul. Still very encouraged with the rest of his game. He is practically a draft and stash player with how long it could take his shot to get there.

Jett is a sleeper to be our SG of the future. I could see his skill set being better in an NBA game than in college or this summer league drivel. I really hope he gets a legit chance to compete for playing time given our glut of guards.

Going to be a loooooooong offseason. I expect both to open the season as third stringers and bump up as the season progresses.

Franz Wagner is a perfect example of this.

NO! This is the Magic board. OVER reacting and making the spiciest hot takes are our M.O.

Oh God Jett is a way better offensive player than Okeke

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Loved ABs rebounding tonight. He sucked everywhere else. He has a knack for being around the ball.

I really like Jett. Better than Gradey.

I try not to bash players, but my big gripe with Okeke is I expect him to improve somewhat in the offseason and he always comes back looking like the exact same player. No shooting improvement, in the same shape. The Magic need to get him with someone new this offseason stat because this is his last chance.

Black’s scoring looks like it’s still a project. I genuinely think he could benefit from learning from Fultz. He seems to create a lot of similar opportunities in the paint to Fultz, but doesn’t see how to finish them or get cleaner looks.

I’m curious how they’ll develop his scoring. Do they use his size advantage and focus on getting him to post up for easy buckets as a staple? Or do they dig in on getting him comfortable scoring from traditional guard positions - shooting/drives off PnR/etc

If I’m honest, Black’s game has many similar shades to Elf, Fultz and MCW in my eyes - and that’s what I love about him. But he’s got all the same obstacles to overcome in his game those guys had, so I hope people know what they’re in for as he develops.

That tip in on the buzzer though?! That kinda game-winning hustle doesn’t show up on a stat sheet. Black and Suggs seem like elite difference makers in hustle plays.

I had to read this twice to make sure I wasn’t misreading this.

I’m happy you are happy, I just hope he outperforms those other names.

Someone nailed it when they said black isn't meant for this kind of environment like Franz.... Needs to be in a system for now and needs structure.... Too much freestyle, especially with whatever coach got the guys running

Eh I don't see it. I don't see a ton of similarities in their game outside of not shooting 3s. I'd say Elf and Black so far are probably the closest as far as styles of play but even than there are differences. MCW was a lot different in his "prime" and Fultz doesn't really play like either.

Yes, they are too unselfish and are not iso players. Not an optimal fit for summer league. Plus we can't rebound so they can't get out on the fast break and do cool athletic dunks.

Magic higher ups have repeatedly said they want to have a lot of high iq ball handlers who make quick decisions + off the ball actions. Summer league teams run like max 2 basic types of actions. It's a glorified scrimmage.

They play NOTHING alike.

My best guess would be it's just some of fans going super into the draft, becoming obsessed with a particular player or two, the team not picking them hardly ever since we have zero impact on what the team does, and then having a meltdown.

That combined with most fans only watch their team (understandable) so they have a ton of recency bias + a ton of built up heuristics about players on their favorite team (which are often wrong) which leads to just superficial analysis.

Dude "can't shoot" + "can play defense" + gets assists according to the box score = Elfrid. Never mind that every advanced model and a ton of highly credible analysts (John Hollinger + basically everyone at the Athletic + the Ringer) says otherwise.

I see this in football team fan bases I follow as well. Would assume it's pretty much a norm.

Can't ever discount just basic trolling either.

Just woke up, flying home today!

Looking at the box score and I can see why people are down about Black's shooting. 8 points on 10 FGAs? Rough night. Not even showing the FTr we are hoping for, but at least he's getting to the line at least once per game so far. 3 STOCKS? Noice. 14 rebounds? Wow. Too many turnovers vs assists though. Ended the night with a positive +/-.

Jett with a nice scoring night. Ended the night with a negative +/-.

I kind of hope we play the rooks throughout the entire summer league.

What I think can be put to bed is jetts defense..... These games he's been consistently solid.... Moving his feet, contesting well....some things need to be cleaned up like sometimes he dies on the screen but for the most part not at all a liability like some thought
