When I watch him he's so behind the 8 ball when it comes to his shot creation/iso ball. I don't think he'll ever be that type of player. He'll most likely be like Rajon Rondo/Jason Kidd/Andre Iguodala/Lonzo Ball/Bruce Brown type player where his all-around game versatility will make him really good.
All he has to do is is work on open 3 point shots in order to enhance himself and make himself more valuable on that end of the court.
Comparing him to Haliburton or Alexander (who had much more advanced offensive when they came to the league is a reach). Seriously he can't even break down defenders. How is he going to end up being like those guys? That's strange to me.
We'll just have to wait and see how much he improves. He's going to make a huge jump this season based on his age. His floaters and mid range looked better than Suggs when he came into the league, and he was 7 months older. I think Black has a nice touch.
If Black was born two weeks later, he would've been considered 19 the whole season.

Suggs had a more advanced offensive game coming into the league as he was being compared to guys like Kyle Lowry and Jrue Holiday.
Even when you see hightlights in his first Summer League Suggs was knocking down shots all over the court. Pull up Long 3s, Off Dribble midrange shots, and tough finishes at the bucket. Suggs looked fantastic offensively and was getting real hype until he started playing in NBA games where he looked abysmal.
Black has been getting comparisons to Jason Kidd and Lonzo Ball. And has not had games at least in the Summer league to deviate from those comparisons. Players historically don't drastically deviate from their style of plays or trajectories like that. That's why it's far fetched to believe he'd turn into those guys somehow when he can't even break down his defender in iso situations or not even shoot the ball well at any range outside of 5 feet.
You're looking for an overhauling development which is absolutely rare and difficult to produce. Especially when said player has none of those base skillets even present in his game. It's always possible but highly unlikely.
Lonzo shot 36/30/45 his rookie season, and he was a little older than Black.
Teams were packing the paint, so there was no point in Black driving. He got stripped like 3 times, and we're blowing it out of proportion. That was a handsy NY team.
Suggs made a couple of outside shots in the summer league, but he still doesn't have the touch that Black has.
We'll just have to give it time and see. At Black's age, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make a big impact this season, but he has all the tools to be very good.
