Every other time he had a guaranteed contract waiting for him. Now he’s got to play for his next one.
My question is why was he pleased to see Doc gone?

probably because he realized that doc isn't good enough to get a team over the hump that doesn't already have a stacked roster

Because Doc called him out about the partying. Said Harden isn't the same player on the road.

And Doc is known as a "players' coach." Nick Nurse is known as a hardass. And although Doc got Harden to play mostly the right way, now Harden wants his "basketball freedom." Which means he wants to party and play scatterass playground ball and with $300 million in the bank [less maybe $100 million dropped in tittty bars], he doesn't give a spit. He's still making $35 million this year GUARANTEED.

Beard just met with his pal and protector Daryl Morey again and he still wants out. I just got you to fire Doc Rivers, who made both Embiid and Maxey better players and who both loved him. Nick Nurse? Are you kidding me?

As you know, I'm a Philly boy, and Philly talk radio wants both Harden AND Morey gone. They just don't give a spit anymore--this Sixers team is not gonna win a title with or without Harden because he's a playoff choker anyway. They like Joel and love Tyrese Maxey. Sort of like around here with Kawhi and Terance Mann. ;-)

No doubt, the 6ers have provided no evidence of toughing it through the playoffs. I fear most of it is the fact that Embiid NEVER makes it into the 2nd round unscathed. BUT, they were in position to close out Toronto, Atlanta and Boston. Jimmy revealed that Brett couldn’t coach his way out of a paper sack and we all know Doc’s history. Everyone talks about Miami’s great culture, but they got Spo, just like Toronto won a title with a Kawhi rental and otherwise were always rugged to the bitter end under Nurse. It probably won’t put them over the top, but I sure as hell would like to see what Joel and Maxey can do with their first real coach since college. And old, washed up Harden kind of single-handedly gave them 2 of the 3 games they took off Boston. Maybe that’s all they need out of him, if someone’s got the rest of the team properly schemed and can actually make an adjustment during a game. (Let alone know how to make use of anyone with less than 10 years’ league experience.)

Probably because Doc is the worst coach in sports history. Imagine being a player on his teams going into an elimination game with that guy as your coach, knowing that you will be thrown under the bus after he loses.

I'm hoping he stays in Philly. Mann, Bones, Boston, KJ Martin, and possibly Kobe Brown will all step up this season

Philly paper
https://www.inquirer.com/sports/james-harden-trade-rumors-embiid-beverley-comments-20230712.html

That sound you hear is Daryl Morey doing the best thing he can do.

The tick of the second hand, the whisper of the wind, people writing songs that voices never share.

Call it a modified Mark Twain.

Buy time. They aren’t making more of it.

The message to James Harden and the Clippers is simple:

    We’ll wait.

The Sixers don’t have much leverage when it comes to extracting a fair price for Harden. What little leverage they have is the fact they don’t have much to lose.

The Clippers have one option: Make an offer that makes the Sixers an appreciably better team than they would otherwise be. Otherwise, what’s the point?

You want to take Terance Mann off the table? We’ll wait. You want to wrap that first-round pick in enough protections to make it meaningless? We’ll wait. You want all of the gain and none of the pain? That’s fine.

    We’ll wait.

Same goes for Harden. We’ll try to do right by you, but we have to do right by ourselves. We are contractually obligated to pay you $35 million. You are contractually obligated to play basketball. You’d rather wait and see if the Clippers really value you enough to part with real value?

    Well, so would we.

    Otherwise, we’ll wait.

As things stand right now, the Sixers’ best scenario is to hope that Harden has a change of heart.

Is that really a possibility? Only Harden can answer that. But there are some signs that the bridge isn’t completely burned.

The most curious one came the day the Sixers agreed to terms with veteran point guard Patrick Beverley, a longtime friend and former teammate of Harden’s. While breaking the news on his podcast, Beverley said that Doc Rivers played a role in convincing him to sign in Philly. Not only that, but the former Sixers coach cited Harden as one of his reasons.

“James, he respects you,” Beverley recalled Rivers saying. “You will be great with him.”

Keep in mind, this was several days after news of Harden’s trade request had broken.

On Monday, Beverley openly pleaded with Harden to return to the Sixers.

“One of my decisions coming here was because James Harden was here,” Beverley told reporters at his official unveiling as a Sixer. “So, I hope he stays. Hope that everybody can kind of work something out and put that behind us and kind of move forward. I think it’s important.”

Whatever Harden’s motivations, it clearly isn’t personal. Last week, photographers captured him partying with Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, and former Sixers co-owner Michael Rubin at a party in Las Vegas. Consider Embiid’s comments to Showtime’s Rachel Nichols:

“I want him to come back, obviously, so we can go out and accomplish what we want, which is to win a championship,” Embiid said, “so, hopefully, his mindset can be changed. But other than that, I’m just happy to be his friend. We’re close and we’ve grown since he got here and that’s what I’m excited about. I’m excited to keep that friendship for the rest of our lives.”

Simple, just ask for a buy out Bev and come on back.

Really though, I hope the FO just nips it in the bud and says that they aren't pursuing the deal anymore, or just completes it to get the mindset of moving on. At this rate, with Lue not being a fan of T, just include him with whatever JAG, if it's Nico as well, just bring back Winslow.

Maybe we should be like the Heat fans on the GB and just expect that we should be able to give a subpar package to get an all star who demanded a trade to our team.

Beard has made $270M in the NBA

of course, with his love of partying, he might be down to his last $100 million

Harden is gonna keep making malcontent noises

Morey is gonna keep pretending that he should get 110% value back for trading Harden, which is gonna drag on for months

Clips should just be smart and keep finding ways to improve the team with the limited resources they have. Once Morey gets desperate enough to deal, then offer up a reasonable package and if its not enough, then move on. Once Harden makes strong statements like Dame has, "LAC or i wont play", that'll really kill his trade value and force Morey's hand. Either he maxes Harden or trade him for whatever he can get. If i'm LAC, i'd just have a deal of Powell, Morris, protected FRP on the table and wait it out.

UPDATE via Philly:

James Harden Adamant About Only Joining The Clippers In Trade From Philadelphia
https://fadeawayworld.net/james-harden-adamant-about-only-joining-the-clippers-in-trade-from-philadelphia

LOL

Well then you should have opted out and signed for the minimum with the Clippers like Russ did, eh? You've made $250 MILLION in salary in the NBA. But you want to have your tittty bar Lemon Chicken Wings and eat them too.

Frankly, as a Sixers fan [also], if it's between no deal and taking the Clippers' spare parts [Powell] and unwanted refuse they should be paying ME to haul away [Mook], my Hobson's choice is NO DEAL.

Look folks, Negadelphia ENJOYED letting Ben Kardashian Simmons dangle in the wind. Beard almost made Philadelphia respect him but then he let us down in the playoffs.

Philly would much rather see Harden suffer than take Clipper trash. In fact, we're very cool with just letting Harden suffer. It's how we roll.

Every time I see a headline about what Harden "wants" or "is adamant about" or "is sticking to," I look for the thing that matters to me--the Clippers reaction. And, so far, its been exactly what I expect--a bunch of nada.

I'm not saying Harden couldn't help the team in certain scenarios, but I think the writing on the wall is pretty clear. I appreciate that Harden wants to get out of Philly--you made it clear, bro. Got it. OTOH--trying to get the Clippers to offer anything significant? They're just not that into you.

it's hard to grasp that price of Harden just a little over 2 years ago was Jarret Allen, Caris Levert and 4 FRPs.

I think Harden will end up with Clippers. probably it will have to involve Powell and picks so we can dump Morris too, and a 3rd team. I'd rather keep Powell and buyout Morris then trade for Harden.

Clippers in: Harden, Tucker
Clippers out: Morris, Covington, Powell, two 2nd round picks

76ers in: Morris, Hayward, four 2nd round picks
76ers out: Harden, Tucker

Hornets in: Covington, Powell
Hornets out: Hayward, two 2nd round picks

It'll take more than seconds, and I don't see Cha taking on future salary. Norm/Morris/RoCo/swaps in 27 and 29 is probably what Frank is offering now, and will probably end up with a first in 28 and swap in 29

I may receive a storm of derisive abuse for asking this but here goes.

If PG13/Kawhi/Russ are healthy for most of a year, do we really need Harden? Aren't we going to still be a top 5 contender next year even without him?

Anybody getting by the Joker and Denver has a really task ahead, but does Harden get us there? The LA Times had a huge article this morning basically demanding the Clips trade for him, but it made me wonder if one year with Harden is worth the collateral damage the deal may cause to the Clippers' future?

OK, I'll go hide in my bunker now.

you may be right. There is only one basketball to go around and I don't think Harden and Westbrook are a good fit because they both need the ball too much and Westbrook in particular struggles off the ball due to his poor shooting. Harden would help with facilitating though as he does have great court vision
