Probably was more realistic for us to trade for him before we got Porzingis.

I guess you could play Towns and Porzingis together. But it probably wouldn't be the ideal fit - probably too much redundancy there..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

It already got dumped, just hasn't found out yet. We are in "who is the fifth wing" mode but just need a moment to settle in.

Zach Lowe: "We'll see what happens with Jaylen Brown in Boston. I have been told over and over that he will sign some version of the supermax soon-ish. It has not been signed yet but I expect it to be still despite this ongoing delay. Everyday, I get a little more, 'mmmm that's interesting'..."

Ian Begley: "Do you know if that's a Lillard thing or is it unrelated to Lillard?"

Zach Lowe: "Look again, we're still in mid-July so there's all sorts of whispers and posturing and rumor-mongering and all that. From all that everything I heard, it's a bells and whistles on the supermax thing. Player options, trade kickers, all that kind of stuff... But I have said over and over that I don't love the Jaylen Brown for Damian Lillard one-for-one for either team."

My guess is that Brad knew the landscape for bigs — including but not limited to KAT, Siakam, Gobert(?), and anyone else you want to bring up — and decided that Porzingis was the guy. He seems to be HYPED about him — and maybe it’s just partly the relatively low acquisition cost, but I suspect it’s more than that.

Spoiler:
Can't find the full list but a sampling: Embiid at 91, A. Edwards is at 88, Tatum at 78, Randle at 75, JB at 68, Jokic at 68, Luka at 64. Draymond G. turns it over at about the same rate but only 19 lost ball turnovers, guy has hands of steel :o

I'd like to see the "Spectacularly dumb TOs" ranking, with the data splits for "Running-into-crowd TOs" being of special interest.

Well I think that is the real issue, is the lack of playmaking for others as opposed to the TOs. Some of them look bad but I haven't seen anyone kill Anthony Edwards for losing the ball even though he does it more than JB.

Issue is he just doesn't create tons of other opportunities relative to his scoring and position. He's #104 in assists per 100 possessions, behind a lot of the more dynamic scoring guys. So he's high volume, middling efficiency, low-medium playmaking. But OG is at the bottom of the barrel in assists in that general category (ie, good wings), so it doesn't make sense to pine for him too much.

I am curious if he was a bad fit for Smart, who was trending towards a 2011-13 celtics era offense of sets and pin point passes, and JB is not a Ray Allen. Cautiously optimistic a more free flowing offense will be better with one guy that sort of end scorer but we will see.

About the Edwards comparison: Brown has been in the league for seven years now and has arguably hit his prime. Yet, he seems to be in a forever 'I've got something to prove' loop, which is affecting team play. When is he going to start looking for the open man? In his mid thirties? Edwards is a young-in, still learning. I'm sure he'll receive the same treatment from fans in 4-5 years if he's still operating as a rookie.

Not really. They can divide it between two decent players.

Jaylen seems to be considered top 25 amongst the league, which is all that matters, and Brad should get a top 25 guy in return, if they ever deal Jaylen.

Bring in lesser players and Tatum's probably a Laker in a few years, which would be the ultimate dagger.

Not if the Celtics win. Tatum will get the supermax and will be looking for a ring. At that point LeBron will be gone and AD will be hobbling (again).

If Tatum loves Brown so much, he wouldn't be lobbying Dame to come to Boston (allegedly). Portland isn't parting with Lillard for Brogdon and bits and pieces, even if the salaries matched. Tatum sees all of Brown's dumb plays up close and personal.

Tatum's likely lobbying Lillard to join him and Brown.
