I see no reason why those 3 couldn't play a lot of minutes together. Tatum at the 3, Siakam at the 4, Porzingis at the 5.
You could even occasionally go with a bigger lineup with rob or al in there with Porzingis as double bigs, with Tatum and Siakam on the wings. But Rob or al would probably be traded, if we got Siakam..
Also, while JB for Siakam may be a lateral move, they're comparable players but at least Siakam gives you better playmaking - something that would be huge if you've got 3 high usage, high scoring guys on the same team.
And while it may be a lateral move, you're at least getting a star player in return. If things go south with JB, we could end up losing him for nothing.
Plus, it may be a lateral move but I better financial move - since you could pay Siakam much less $ than you would have to pay JB on a supermax..
Not that intrigued by paying Siakam even the regular max at age 34. Think Brown at 32 on a superish max is still better value, both on-court and trade.
It's all about 2-3 year windows. Siakam will be 31 in 2 years and he'll be 32 in 3 years. Windows of more than 3 years don't really exist in today's NBA.
Also, Siakam didn't even play in the NBA till he was 22. He wasn't a full-time starter till he was 24. And he didn't play very much his rookie year. Here's how many NBA minutes (including playoffs) each of them played, through their age 23 season:
