Re: Welcome to Boston, Jordan Walsh!
I think the more serious question is which of these 2 choices is better?
Giving Walsh 40 minutes per at Maine and running the ball/offense through him etc..
Or having Walsh play sporadically with Boston**
**Boston's likely top 8 (at this time) has Brogdon Al and Hauser at 6-8.. Maybe PP at 9.. Walsh battling for the 10th man spot with a few others may be his high hopeful.
Injuries and Al sitting out B2Bs can change his minutes some.. But.. I am leaning on Walsh getting major burn at Maine for a while. Let him grow a more diverse game first. On Boston he will be limited.

Some of both imo. Let him play in Maine. It ride the shuttle. Depth chart is pretty stacked in Boston. But also lots of guys that will play about 60-65 games.
So that should open up enough to see if he can handle minutes for real.

Perhaps. But if that was their plan for Walsh, they probably would have signed him to a 2-way, instead of a standard contract..

I won’t go that far but he reminds me in some ways of Jaylen Brown as a rookie. You can see the talent (less than Brown obviously) but he isn’t quite physically mature yet. Still, his defensive chops and length might make him a useful 3 and D bench player as a rookie like JB was. One big difference is that although Brown was awkward still, he had the size to battle NBA players. I also think that Walsh’s skills are still a little raw and need more refining. That said, I think he is the most promising second round pick by Celtics since Dino Radja. (Ryen Gomes, E’twaun Moore, Nader, Ojeyele being the other notables since then)
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

I didn't know Walsh's parents hired personal coaching for him when he was a 7th grader.

I believe he will be the Celtics best rookie this year.
How many games played, minutes per game, and what 3pt % do you predict for him this season?

Its not like the c's have a ton of wings. I don't think its impossible Walsh plays well enough to beat hauser or PP for minutes, maybe not likely but feasible he does. And on top of that there are always injuries. If a big man goes down we shift Tatum to PF and a lot of wing minutes could open up, same with if Brogdon goes down and Brown/Tatum ends up playing more guard.
If he can hit shots he will have a chance to play a little, and I'm always for getting minutes at the NBA level over g league.

In the old days I'd say that practicing against JT and JB will be invaluable experience. Now I don't really know if NBA teams practice after camp? I mean it seems weird to say that, but it's an honest question

Hoping for a young Richard Jefferson. I like the fact he already bested his career high in the NCAA, even if it was summer league

Like you said it's just summer league. And I'm not making a direct 1 to 1 comparison here, but another recent example of a player who all of a sudden once he got to the NBA was scoring more points than he did during his 1 year of college season....
Scottie Barnes.
Scottie Barnes won ROY.
Again, it's just SL and I'm not making a direct 1 to 1 comparison. But there are *some* similarities between them. And there have been a few guys (especially recently) who have had more success scoring once they get to benefit from NBA spacing.
And the spacing on the Arkansas team that Walsh played for was especially bad. They were 326th ranked in college basketball in 3 pt %.

"He can guard three positions; he can guard the small forward, a power forward, and he can guard an off-guard. He has great lateral foot speed and is kind of a violent defender who likes to jump passing lanes."

Nice find...
Here's some excerpts that I think some will enjoy...that was a great move to bring in trainers when he was in the 7th grade...
Walsh started crafting that fearless approach as a pre-teen.
“At first, it wasn’t pretty,” said Charles Stoker, Walsh’s long-time trainer. “He hated me. He cried [in] a couple of workouts, didn’t want to come back.”
Stoker started working with Walsh in the seventh grade when John, Jordan’s father, sought outside help to further his son’s basketball career. At the time, Stoker said his new athlete “couldn’t even put his right foot in front of his left foot without making a foul.”
In his first three years at Faith Family Academy in Dallas, Walsh blossomed into a five-star recruit. He became a defensive beast, averaging 2.4 steals and 2.3 blocks per game in his junior season.

At around 4:07 rookie sees the man JD misses and sends it. A little rushed but glad he saw it.

It's just summer league. But out of all the rookies playing in SL, when you just look at the way they all performed in SL, Walsh may have been one of the top 10 rookies in SL.

If you think he's gonna be a star type player 40 mins. If you envision him as a role player. Stay with Boston in a role.
