No way the player is worth more $ than Tatum
Extend Brown lose Tatum is my guess
If trade value is not there let him play out the final year see how it goes with KP
And then ? Let him walk ? Without being able to replace him or his salary spot at all.
People getting too hung up on “worth”
People are getting too hung up on "salary spot." If a player's value is salary spot then just resign Pritchard to $40 mil. so we have that spot available. Except no sane person would even consider that. Salary ballast should never be a justification for overpaying a player. Salary spot is neither valuable nor essential. We can get a chunk of that back with sign and trade, and with Brogdon and Horford we have enough salary to get a decent 3rd option type player back even without a large TPE. Payroll flexibility is far more useful for future moves than having a lot of useless salary.
There are many good reasons to let him play out his contract, even at the risk of him walking.
If he is actually good in his final year then we can still offer the most on a competitive team. If Jaylen Brown is would rather sign for Detroit or something out of spite then good on him, that just means he's petty, short-sided, selfish and we dodged a bullet.
If he sucks we dodged a bullet.
If he's injured we dodged a bullet.
Jaylen Brown is not some proven superstar we have to lock up to a long term deal.
