Pleased with the signing. Looking forward to seeing him play in Maine, and would not be surprised to seeing him get some minutes with the big team.

No Scrubs is one of the TLC songs he references. Hope Jay does well enough to keep the reference around.

At 22, he still has some upside. It wouldn't shock me if he ends up playing some meaningful mins at some point for us - either this season or the one after that.

Bottom line. The guy knows how to get a bucket. He can score on drives to the basket and he can hit the 3. He's got solid quickness and athleticism, decent handle.

We now have 1 two-way left. I'm assuming the last one will be someone with more size, since JD is is a 6'3" PG and Scrubb is a 6'4" wing.

Scrubb is not 6'4.

Oh ok. It says 6'5" here so I guess I was wrong.

Thought I saw somewhere that said he was 6'4"..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

I've only seen him listed at 6'5 mostly, one place I saw he was listed at 6'6. So had to check the combine measurements. But I don't think he has a 40 inch vertical because we didn't see anything like that in the SL.

But he gets up here.

“The talent is clear,” Dobbins said. “I told him my goal was for the whole league to know how special he is. He hasn’t been in Boston for a long time but he has a great personality. And I told him I just want to help him show the entire league that personality and just the energy that he has, the ability that he has and the consistency that he’s working to have each day as a young player, as he tries to carve out a role in the league as an everyday NBA player, and take advantage of opportunities for minutes.

“So for me it’s easy to build that bond because he wants to improve. He talked about what he’s committed to doing and what his goals are for the two weeks that he’s here and I committed to him that I will do everything I can to help him with this role that I have. I’m really excited about trying to help him do that because the talent is there and he wants to improve and he wants to get better.

“A player comes in that gym with that attitude and I’m obligated to do everything I can to help him with it. It’s something I’m excited about doing because he’s a great young man.”

scrubb's got love from me. already seems like a professional scorer type and there is always a place for those kind of guys. needs to improve his 3 ball but his form and release are good, hopefully his SL shooting translates. competes defensively though not a plus on that end. decent size, decent handles. could do worse with our 17th man.

If I remember correctly, someone on this board wanted him drafted by the Celtics in 2020. He is a skilled player. The only thing holding him back is his tunnel vision. I don't know if he can overcome that but if he does, he will be an NBA player for a while.

Not normally the kind of guy I would take a punt on because of how much he needs the ball in his hands to be effective, but he definitely earned the contract.

I think it's harder for ball dominant fringe guys like Scrubb to break out. Coaches just don't want to put the ball in a two-way players hands that often outside of Summer League, especially non-PG's. You might get a short run at some stage but you'd have to have a Linsanity-esque one to have a chance at a more consistent thing when the team is healthy.

He's got upside though at only 22, thought he was much older actually. It's not a bad two-way lottery ticket, could definitely do worse.

Yup, seems like teams are really into these small-school, obscure guys lately. Kind of like how Bill Belichick would draft some ultimate frisbee player to play football and piss everyone off.

He's a one-dimensional hacker who can't do anything but shoot and the ball movement disappears when he has it,
but he's a vast upgrade over Sham Sucky and Justin Jackson...

This guy had 30% USG in the G-Leagues lol.
If he ever suits up for the real team outside of garbage time it's trouble.

Next step in his development will be his passing and playmaking for others. He reminds me of Gabe Vincent slightly. Although Gabe really became a great playmaker to go with his shooting and mid range game.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

He passes the eye test. I'm not going to overanalyze too much beyond that. It'll be tough to judge him much until we see how he adapts to his role(s) in a real life NBA context.

I question whether somebody who had a 0.0 GPA will learn the nuances of the game.

Here's hoping he beats the odds.

Let him work with the big team and see if that potential unlocks. No brainer move.

He could be Jordan Crawford Esue for us. He can score, he can handle the ball. Not at Crawfords level of course, few ever will be.

But 80% of Crawford and we have a great asset off the bench.

I was impressed with how Dobbins used him — from the very first SL game, Scrubb was the featured scorer for the second units. Which is a good way to showcase a scorer when you’ve also got at least one PG (JD) that you also want to be ball-dominant.
