Who's the best 5'8" QB ever?

Doug Flutie

Just watched the Cleveland game, focused on him and Gradey.

I really don't see Nowell being able to get minutes for us. He's just not enough of a threat to score to open up easy passes on the drive. Not sure how he shoots close enough to 40% to be playable. 42% on 2s last year and I think in the NBA that looks closer to 30%. Defensively obviously likely to really struggle.

If he plays like JJ Barea it's a massive win.

It's hard to evaluate guys like this during summer league because in summer league, Nowell is the 2nd best player on his team and he needs to perform 2nd best player tasks.

In the NBA, he's going to be the 5th best starter on the floor most of the time so how he performs basic tasks like the PNR, catch and shoot 3s will determine whether he can actually stick.

That's why most of these point totals these young players put up don't matter all that much. 99.9% of these guys aren't going to be the #1, #2 or even #3 option on their NBA teams, so it's the other parts of their game (when they don't have the ball) that will determine whether they get consistent minutes or not.

Nowell is interesting.

He's obviously a very dynamic player that can create a ton of magic out there and change the pace of a game. He's a very creative passer, has excellent vision and isn't afraid.

The issue is he seems to be very turnover prone, is not a very efficient shooter and his size makes him a bit of liability on both ends at times.

I think he's a nice piece to keep in case we have some injuries to our lead guards like Schroeder. He's a guy who I think could fill in for a temporary period, but I don't think he'll ever be a full-time serviceable player unless he can become an elite 3 point shooter.

We'll see. I'm rooting for the underdog.

On the turnovers, id caution you summer league is not a good platform to judge. Way too un structured

Pretty much every PG we’ve ever had has been accused of having tunnel vision. Its a Raptor fan thing.

There's really only 1 PG we've ever wanted to attempt to shoot more. Mr 50/40/90 himself.

Sucks for Nowell..if only he was 4+ inches taller, he'd actually be a legit NBA player. As it is, even though I like the way he plays, his size is just too big of a gap to overcome.

Not impressed.
Other than occasional flashy passes, I just don't see any positives with this guy.

Duffman didn't call Pensare a "mental patient". I did.

Duffman even said it was inappropriate for me to say it.

Pensare is fair game...he makes all sorts of claims about other's personal integrity on a public platform.

And I called him a mental patient because I watched him deliver a 20 minute monologue on youtube about getting robbed by "two black guys" at Kennedy Station that was clearly fictitious and frankly hilarious. But also disturbing.

The motivation to lie about such a thing on a public forum is why I referred to him as a "mental patient".

This dude is messed up.

I've actually enjoyed some of his recent insight regarding the confabulated myths about Scottie lacking work ethic. If he isn't beyond making stuff up and ranting about it, that is pretty serious. How are you sure he made up a story about being robbed?

There are multiple reasons why I am certain but I'm not gonna list them here. Anyone with an ounce of awareness would only have to watch it.

I guess it was a weird coincidence that the only time I clicked on his YouTube channel he went off on that ridiculous lie. Was also down-talking his own parents in the same video. Shameful.

sounds like just a bunch of hate coming from a main stream media shill. the guy was calling out the locker room drama and the rift between FVV and the young guys long before main stream media actually admitted that it was happening, and then we have some posters here condescendingly snarking that there isn't enough evidence to make that claim while relying on nonsensical reports about FVV being a good teammate from years past like it has any god damn relevance to the locker room dynamics this past season. like he said, read the room. it's like huge smoke emanating from a house but some refusing to acknowledge there is a fire because they can't see inside the house. the guy gives deep and thoughtful analysis and blows dudes like Doug Smith, Will Lou, Lewenberg, Raptors Digest, etc. out of the water with his discussions. Most of the time it's backed by thoughtful observations and evidence and it's convincing. keep hating and calling him a "mental patient" without addressing any points he actually makes, very insightful.

I'd have to watch the video to make a fair assessment.

I thought the way Pensare tracked down the source of the "Scottie lacks work ethic" myth to a wild uninformed David Thorpe speculative tangent on Will Lou's show, which then multiple beat reporters (e.g., Doug Smith for instance) ran away with. It showed a methodical and detail oriented approach that I can admire. I occasionally listen in when he keeps his videos shorter and more focused.

Yes. God forbid the stuff we do in our youth follows us forever, but yes.
