Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 4
I would Think Powell would be part of a 3 team trade. Looking at realistic trade options for guys on the last year of their contracts...
I used to like Gordon Hayward, but he's a bit washed these days. Maybe something like...
Sixers get:
Hayward, Covington, lottery protected 1st rd pick from Clippers and 2nd round pick
Clippers get:
Harden and Tucker
Hornets get:
Powell and Marcus Morris.

I don't think they're offering that. I also don't think Morey wants Powell/Mann on the books for 30M next year.
Meh the max cap space **** is complete BS to sell the fans that he has a “plan” 90 percent of the coming free agents will either
Extend
Trade then extend
Or just resign with their own team
Free agency isn’t what it used to be and Morey definitely knows that lol. Mann and Powell are the only impact players they have to offer
I'm not big on the cap space idea, but it's clearly a better plan that Mann/Powell. Those guys don't move the needle.
I'm getting annoyed with all the reporting surrounding Mann like he's some young stud that they're hesitant to deal. He's a rotational guard that turns 27 in October.

I think the cap space stuff is also just a bluff to say we will sign someone when we want to just trade for them now. Like say pascal

He also is on his second contract. He isn't even cheap anymore

My best guess is that both things are true. Daryl never wanted Halliburton & was always focused on Harden. Sacramento also never made a serious offer built around Simmons for Halliburton. It always felt to me like Morey & Monte were just old friends using each other to generate useful headlines.
I bet Morey was interested in Haliburton before James started forcing his way out of Brooklyn. We had our iron in many fires with Ben prior to Harden becoming available.
I thought so too. It may be revisionist history by Morey but he said that trade was never really on the table.
He stated recently the reports were false there really was no other move to pivot to.

Pretty sure after harden dropped 42 and the game winner in game 4 the Sixers check book from the ownership was ready to be used but the game 6 and 7were horrific enough to close it. Unfortunately. I’m a realistic fan. He has a chance to

Independent of a plan to clear cap space, they can not want those contracts.

My hot take is the deal is already done, we're just waiting till August.
Is there a specific player that becomes available in trade?
Only recently drafted and signed players become available then. Kobe Brown if we are talking Clipprrs.
Thanks. I was curious if there were any rumors I missed targeting a specific players. I’m guessing a deal isn’t deal because Morey and Harden’s people are working to put narratives out there still, which wouldn’t be necessary if a deal were in hand. I might be looking at it too surface level, but it seems like they are still sending signals.

The Clips are so excited to bring Harden on board that they refuse to add Terence Mann to any trade package… Think about that for a second.
And this clown is mad at us? Should be mad at the Clippers if anything.

Then lets not trade Harden. We get a higher pick and clear max cap space next offseason.
Im not even trading Harden if they include mann

Do it.... Bill Plashke applying that pressure. I called it before free agency.... Clippers make so much sense to want Harden. They have flexibility after this season too
Column: It’s now or never for the Clippers. They must trade for James Harden

Okay, if the Clippers it is,
Good value that they have:
- 2028 unprotected 1st round pick
- 2030 unprotected 1st round pick
- Bones Hyland
Semi value:
- Norman Powell
- Terrance Mann
- expirings in Covington, Morris, Batum
If Morey can get 2 unprotected 1sts + Hyland + expirings, I’d be okay with that

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 4
Other than the LA aspect of it, I don’t really get why James would want to go to the Clippers. He will be beholden to whatever Kawhi and PG want. His stats will take a dip, particularly in scoring.
He currently has an MVP teammate that likes him and a team that is deprived of offensive creators. He was the entire offensive system last year.
I feel like he’s going to lock horns with someone in LA, they’ll fall short of expectations, and he’ll retire ringless. Certainly he could retire ringless here, but at least he’d finish on a team essentially built around his offensive game.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 4
Is there a specific date when Kenyon Martin can get traded again?
Norman Powell
Terance Mann
Kenyon Martin
rights to Kobe Brown
That adds up to over $30m. Throw in some pick swaps and I'd do the deal.
I don't feel the need to get a star in return for Harden because his age, intangibles, and playoff play are all garbage so let's not all kid ourselves.

Not the Morey type of deal at all.
He talked that he is still searching for
1. A star running mate for Embiid.
2. Picks and swaps he can later turn into a star running mate for Embiid.
3. Flexibility for 2024 summer for max cap space to get a star running mate for Embiid.
Your proposal does not fit any of the needs Morey’s searching for in a Harden trade.
Expirings, Hyland, 2028 and 2030 unprotected firsts does. You can include Martin in it.

A Morey deal would be to include 2 first round picks ontop of his star and get Russell Westbrook. Thankfully, Westbrook no longer has a high enough salary for the trade to work.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 4
I dont think Morey is just looking at value in and value out.
I think Morey looks at what is the most value you can hand out and what is the consequence if you dont, given your situation. It’s like playing in poker, he looks at your chips to know how much you can risk.
And this is why he set up his chips right now where the trading partner can see that he does not have anything to lose by not trading Harden. He has a big cap space by next season like what he mentioned in his recent interview.
For the Clips, this looks like the end of the Kawhi and PG era with the Clips if they fail again in the playoffs. He knows if the just hold his position, Clips will give PG or a lot of draft picks and assets (all picks, all young players and all players he wants outside PG and Kawhi)
You dont get to form a big three giving less value than what Nets and Suns did. Morey knows that
