Also, Hauser was often times getting minutes over Grant last season. Grant also often times tried to do too much off the dribble, like at the end of the Bucks game where he pumped faked on a 3, tried to drive on Giannis, failed miserably, turning it over and losing us the game - and the 1 seed.
Or how how about when he lost us the game vs cleveland, by missing 2 FT's, after telling Mitchell "I'ma make em both" ?
Or how about when he got beat off the dribble in the ECF by duncan robinson? Probably the first and only time ever in his NBA career that robinson blew by a defender. Meanwhile, Hauser was locking up Trae Young in the playoffs: ?s=20
Lastly, Grant Williams is irrelevant to the discussion we were having. We weren't discussing Hauser vs Grant Williams. We were discussing whether Hauser is an adequate 8th man. To add to the discussion, I posted a chart that showed the projected 8th man for a bunch of other teams in the league. I made the point that you could argue Hauser is just as good as any other guy on that list (especially in terms of the way he fits with this celtics team, the role we need him to play and how well he fits that role). Grant Williams is probably gonna start for Dallas - he is not the mavericks 8th man, so he's not relevant to that particular discussion.
Grant >>> Hauser in the playoffs, which is all that matters most.
As i just pointed out in my post, in the playoffs Grant was getting beat off the dribble by Duncan Robinson (it was probably the first and only time Robinson ever blew by a defender like that in his NBA career)..Meanwhile, in the playoffs Hauser was locking up Trae Young and any other Hawks player who tried to take him off the dribble.
In the playoffs, Hauser's net rating was +13.1. Grant's was -4.

Advanced stats told me the Celtics were winning the title in 2022.
Advanced stats are nice for the regular season but is more to the game than what some nerd model predicts.
