Seems like their thing is more hands off, which is probably still an upgrade if it means Kotick is out.
gestures vaguely towards the last 10 years of microsoft first party games
I'm not so sure.
I've heard Sea of Thieves has become quite good. In any case, this is more about Kotick. I play the other franchises every now and then but don't follow them too closely these days, but the Overwatch team I think has generally put out good content. There's just a long history of fights with upper management about some of the monetization stuff and Kotick making them do certain things like shifting their focus onto a battle royale mode that never saw the light of day when that was all the rage. One of the producers on OW2 that left a couple years ago for Riot called him out on twitter after she left as being one of the biggest reasons people cited for leaving the company.
Not to mention allegedly threatening to have a female employee killed and burying many of the harassment and rape allegations at ActiBlizz. Of course, assuming the merger actually does happen, it would take some time to really make a difference in the direction of things, but Kotick is a POS and him being gone would only be a good thing if that were to eventually happen.
