We're buying what will be his best years as a pro. And I think he'll still be very tradeable on that contract.

It could also be a good thing too. Him making all-NBA made him eligible for the supermax. He can only sign supermax for the Celtics. So, JB making all-NBA means a REALLY good player became much more likely to stay in Boston long term which is a good thing.

I'm fine with the deal as it was always the most likely outcome with him but I highly doubt he'll finish out that contract in Boston.

Well, it's officially official! Now we have our starting 5 set for next year. Let's get it done.

Funny, I haven't seen those "Celtics ownership is cheap and they should just sell the team" posts in this forum in a while.

By year 3 that contract will probably be a bargain.

Well, good thing that contract's not gonna be kicking in until after next season, so I'm gonna leave all the anguish to future me. But good grief. Such a flawed player to be paid that much.

Good thing Brad's been stacking up all those future 2nd round picks because those are probably the best available tools to fill out the team going forward, especially since even ring chasers are hard to get by.

But yeah, the great thing in the NBA is there's 29 other teams, and there will always be at least 2 or 3 with a stupid enough GM to trade for a contract like that if it comes down to it.

Doubt it. This version of the Celtics probably has 2 years to prove themselves. Year 3 when Tatum's super max is about to kick in is where things could get very interesting as far as players moving including Jaylen Brown.

People are insane if they think JB will be traded next year. Just dumb thinking driven by talk shows to drive ratings.

I see it the same, 2 year window to see how this big 3 meshes. As I've said before, I think it can mesh well but Jaylen, now VERY well taken care of, needs to slim down the playbook offensively and beef up the effort defensively. I see no reason he can't continue to average north of 20 points a game but do so with less handle time per possession. This is also IMO a judgment season for Tatum. If he has a bump in distribution the need for a floor general is negated to a large extent.

Derrick White extension up next! :D

Honestly think Brad Stevens gets this done over the next few months.

Is there a deadline for that?

Rob Perez @WorldWideWob

supermax isnt perfect. it’s beneficial bc it gives franchises an advantage in retaining home-grown players. detrimental bc salary cap equity hold size/one player leverage. maybe supermax $ above vet max # shouldnt count towards tax apron? idk. anyone have a middle ground idea?

Actually think this is a good idea.

Mannix on WEEI...

- Still dislikes the Porzingis trade.
- Never thought Mazzulla was in trouble: well protected by Stevens.
- Picks the Celtics 3rd in the East.
- Celtics bench coaching staff now measures up to other quality coaching staffs.
- Still thinks the Celtics could possibly use their draft picks and add to the team before the season.
