Taking off my ‘Endocrinology hat’ & putting on my reasonably well informed ‘well rounded Internal Medicine hat (including Cardiology)’ - any number of possibilities, but I am thinking:

Athlete’s Heart - Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM) - associated w Assymetric Septal Hypertrophy (ASH) & potentially lethal ventricular arrhythmias like V Tach & V Fib. Historically called Idiopathic Hypertrophic Subaortic Stenosis (IHSS).

ALA Hank Gaithers in the 1990s.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK430820/

Len Bias & Reggie Lewis apparently had lethal ventricular arrhythmias associated w cocaine-related cardiomyopathy. Different beast.

Jeff Green had an aortic aneurysm repaired just in time when he was with us a long time ago. I have always conjectured whether he has a form of Marfan’s Syndrome which predisposed him. Different beast. (Abraham Lincoln is thought to have had Marfan’s Syndrome.)

G-d speed to Bronny, LeBron & the family.

Implications for his future in the NBA TBD after exhaustive cardiological evaluation. If severe form, he is done. If very mild form, maybe - see additional link below.

Simplistic view...couldn't he get an ICD and be good to go?

Can increased "stress" potentially have caused any of those conditions to escalate? I am wondering because the young man has been in the spot light so early and often. It just seems like it could be a mitigating factor.

Or is it purely medical In your opinion?

Genetic + possible stress component superimposed.

Wow, that is a shock. Thankfully he is in stable condition and out of ICU.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Shocked when I saw this. Hopefully, he makes a full recovery. Basketball takes a backseat. He needs to get healthy first, then worry about how it will affect his athletic career. I'm sure there are many other things he can venture into if he can't resume basketball.

Future career prospects and 'what-could-be' historical relevance/legacy in sports be d@mned...

Whatever the circumstances that led to the unexpected cardiac event, the thing that matters most right now should be full recovery and a path back to full health... Figure out the rest much later.
