Wonder why it's different though

With the Celtics signing Jaylen, it’s not going to be long before someone makes $100 million per year at this rate they’re escalating

That's crippling for them! Especially when Tatum signs his next extension.

Looks like they're all in this year with Porzingus then ummm

How's their cap look going forward?

60 mil a year for a dude that's at best #2 on your team? That's crazy

I think Brown can be a #1 scorer on a championship team if you're surrounded with good defense and a solid #2 and #3 scorer. That said, Brown's 3 point shooting dipped this year he had 26 points a game but was less efficient scoring those. I think Brown is for sure a top 20 player but also for sure not a top 10 player.

People here are going to freak out when Cade signs a 5 year $230 million extension in 11 months.

You actually see Brown as a #1 scorer on a title team? Why?

Not up to it creating off the bounce consistently, court vision is lacking too which results in turnovers on top of his 3 efficiency dipping as you mentioned.

Who's the #2 & #3 in your scenario?

Agree on Cade's potential extension - the numbers are crazy which is why some long time fans have started to use percentages to keep things in perspective

Need two way players (like Brown)... perhaps Siakam + OG or Sabonis + Mikal Bridges, etc. He's better on a supermax than someone like Beal IMO, but also its tough to give anyone who isn't a top 10 player and possible MVP candidate $50+ million per year.

Brown won’t be the largest for long. He’s just the first super-max under the new cap structure.

I'm surprised Christian Wood and Hamidou Diallo remained unsigned.

I'm not.

Wood has a rep so that explains why he's not signed

Diallo lacks the outside shooting so not a surprise he's not a prior for teams. Hopefully he lands in a good spot so he can showcase himself. I've always been high on him

Lots of aging vets have not signed deals yet.

Blake Griffin (34)
Markief Morris (34)
John Wall (33)
Ish Smith (35)
George Hill (37)
Goran Dragic (37)
DJ Augustin (36)
Terrance Ross (32)
Rodney McGruder (32)
Danny Green (36)
Will Barton (32)
Rudy Gay (37)
James Johnson (36)
Tristan Thompson (32)
Boban (35)
Serge Ibaka (34)
Taj Gibson (38)
Derrick Favors (32)
DeMarcus Cousins (33)
Bismack Biyombo (31)

You'd have to imagine a lot of these guys ended up playing their last NBA games and just don't know it yet.

Rubio is only 32, has two years left on his deal, but says he's putting his career on hold.

https://www.latimes.com/sports/newsletter/2023-08-04/lakers-newsletter-anthony-davis-contract-extension-and-more-lakers

Talk a bit about why Christian Wood is un-signed.. Defensive deficiencies, and lack of professionalism. Even Casey said, "There's a reason he's been on 5 teams in 5 years". I hear he's late, too.. I guess the 18ppg and 40% from 3 for a big man means jack **** when a guy can't defend. Guys need to be good defenders nowadays more than ever, since almost every team switches all game long. I'll never understand why a 7-footer doesn't take advantage of a smaller guy in the low block though.

Yep.

There’s a reason we didn’t have all that much interest in keeping him.

Somebody should pick him up- he’s not getting a big payday but if he’s willing to take a bench role he can be rotation player on a playoff team..

With the Lakers showing interest at the league minimum, that might be his best chance to look good this season and get another somewhat decent contract after that. Perhaps the Lakers vets could keep him in line, but I'm doubtful.
