Re: 2023 ATL Thread
I'm generally a sucker for the homerun derby, but this field kinda...sucks. A lot.

This camera split blows. There's no drama or awe to this at all.

Re: 2023 ATL Thread
They need to scrap the Derby and instead do Shohei vs EDLC stuff. Like the QB club thing in the 90s. Just a competition between the two to see who can do more cool ****.

Ok, Rutschman is one of the guys who I was thinking "why?" about, and he just did a switch-hit bonus round which was actually pretty dope.

The clock is a lot better than when they used to do outs.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Which is fair, but then if they're going to use two channels, I wish one was full-screen behind the batter. The ball projection in a small PIP in the upper right is just fine; don't need it to be the same size as real time. I have a 70" TV and still can't see ****, to your point, behind the batter because it's like 35% of the screen with a picture next to it, a giant bar under it, and another bar above it. For ****'s sake, ESPN makes this so complicated.

Oh, are you watching on ESPN2 and the statcast broadcast? I started on that but hated the trajectory view so I switched to the ESPN broadcast and they've never shown it.

Yes because I don't need to look AT the batter either. ESPN is just the batter swinging and super late clips of balls going into the stands, lol.

Re: 2023 ATL Thread
Ah, yea. That's the view I like. I like watching the batter hit the ball and seeing where it lands. Traditional, minus Berman

Re: 2023 ATL Thread
I just want to see the actual fly out, not a quick clip of where it lands. This is my favored production of it, but it's out-based instead of timed. I get VV's point too about timed being better. They gotta find a way to meld it together.

Re: 2023 ATL Thread
The Angels are so so stupid.
I get it and would have some excitement as a fan to pull off a tough comeback for a Wild Card slot and then sign Ohtani next year and keep spending a ton of $ (since they are emptying their farm system) to hope to make things work - but odds are they are going to miss the playoffs, maybe lose Ohtani, and have a terrible farm system.

Re: 2023 ATL Thread
Yup, Just traded their #2 and #3 for two rentals. O' Hoppe will surpass prospect eligibility shortly so their new #1 and #2 will most likely be recent draftees Schanuel and Albert Rios. Like I said in Brewers discussion thread. If this is the price of rentals we need to think very long and hard about additions from a cost/benefit standpoint.

Re: 2023 ATL Thread
I can't really fault the Angels on this one. They gave up two prospects, neither looking like locks to be MLB regulars, for the top starter on the market. Once they decided to keep Ohtani they had to make this kind of move.
At one point the Brewers gave up Matt LaPorta for CC Sabathia and it turned into one of the most fun rides in team history. Maybe the Angels miss the playoffs, but their fans having a couple more months of the best player ever isn't a small thing.

Edgar Quero is a pretty legit prospect. In the end it's bad management of assets. I get not faulting them from an optics standpoint but the smart move is to get a return for an asset you probably cannot retain.
