Is it fair that Thanassis gets an NBA roster spot just for being Giannis’ brother?

Post#1 » by TGW » Fri Jul 28, 2023 11:25 pm

Just saw that he resigned, and my first reaction was “how”?

I think there should be rules in the CBA that disallow this type of signing. I know that he’s signed because Giannis wants him on the team, but thanassis is not an nba player IMO. I think roster spots should go to the best basketball players and not friends and family.

The knicks thought he deserved a spot as well.

So teams will have to check on your opinion on who is an NBA player? Good plan.

I think that would have been a wise signing for the Knicks--and not because Thanassis is good at basketball.

What type of rule could you have in the CBA that forbids this? Are you going to start telling owners who they can and cant sign to teams they own?

Giannis gets whats Giannis wants and if ur a small market like Milwaukee who will always subconsciously think that they’re lucky to have Giannis you dont do anything that makes him unhappy. This is one of the reasons I dont ever see Giannis leaving the Bucks because they go above and beyond to make him happy and let him do what he wants. As a Bucks fan you just accept it.

I will say though that if this were Lebron/Steph/KD or another big star or big market player and their sibling were on the team just to keep them happy that casual fans and media would be much more critical.

Whoever said any of this was fair lol. Is it fair a single NBA player can make $300 mil in 5 years while a third of the world is starving? Doctors make 6 figures while players sit on a bench for 8 figures? This is like the last thing to complain about.

The Bucks would be embarrassed but they can’t see this thread, their championship banner keeps falling in front of the screen every time they click on it.

on point. Sports are a competition, not an exam on fairness and equity, teams do things to win, if winning = keeping best player happy, then you keep best player happy whatever it takes. +1

Meh he’s a borderline NBA player who will never see any meaningful minutes. If it means keeping one of the best players in the league happy, you do it every time.

There are plenty of guys in the league right now that shouldn’t be anywhere near an NBA roster. Atleast Thanassis keeps Giannis happy.

It's Milwaukee.

I honestly think Giannis would have been left if it wasn't for them having his brother on the team. Safe to say as long as Giannis is there so will his brother Thanassis.

To be fair Thanassis is one of the better bench cheerleaders in the NBA. Dude is lit on the bench.

giannis' brother getting an end of the bench roster spot has got to be way down there on your list of grievances if you're bothered by nepotism in the NBA.

Having guys that don’t play, have the ability to play when needed for a few weeks, and will remain happy while not playing for multiple seasons is valuable. Bringing in guys that don’t know terminology, have Chem and know the offence and defense isn’t really better than having thanasis.
