Ima need a valid reason from him on why he declined to play with team USA.
Skill development.
Also stamina and health. I think playing with team usa will hinder, not help him in that regard
All the players on the cusp of stardom go on to play with team USA have come back a much better player imo.

Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread - Part 5
I don’t know about that, why give the keys to a 21 year old blue chip prospect? That would make sense for a team without success. But we’re not that, we made the play in tournament just this past season for god’s sake! Gotta protect our winning culture. We already lost Freddy Allstar, can’t lose Siakam also. Barnes can wait for his opportunity.

That’s not from being on Team USA. Lol. That’s from being 22 years old. A lot of players turn down this opportunity because they want to focus on their game instead. That’s why you have guys like Mason Plumlee, Langston Galloway and Derrick White filling out the roster in years past.
Scottie doesn’t need game reps, he needs to develop his skills and that is going to be done in the gym with coaches and trainers. A lot of players have had great insight about this.

Disagree. Team USA has the best of the best in regards to training, development skill work and coaching. There's no negatives for a player in their early 20's to be apart of the program.
Playing the best of your peers and working out with them will never be a negative to me lol.

Both things can be true, that a player spending time with team USA for skills development being a good thing, and a player taking time to do individual workouts without commitment to national team also being the right decision for them. I can name infinite players who have not been part of team USA yet turned out to be star players including the three best players in the league (Giannis, Joker, Embiid).HumbleRen wrote:Los_29 wrote:HumbleRen wrote:

Giannis plays for the Greece team and Jokic for his own country’s team.
Franz played for his German team at the Euro basket last year.

Getting reps as the lead ball handler facing all kinds of defences is crucial for development. Franz making the biggest leap out of his draft class last season was not a coincidence in my opinion.
I agree that it’s not the end all be all but I think when it comes to Scottie he would really benefit from a different setting in regards to training.
Scottie having the same trainer since middle school is commendable but when you at the pro’s, you need to work with the best of the best. What got you to the league isn’t enough anymore.

I would have to agree that Barnes needs a new trainer.

Which superstar teammate is Jokic or Giannis learning from their national team? I'm confident in saying Rico Hines probably has more talent in their practice sessions than those NT teams. But I do agree that Scottie needs to change his off-season Trainor, like 2 years ago.
