Re: Official Spec Thread: Off-season Edition - The Draft
“Cutting” is not some magical alternative to basketball skills. Every player must have some degree of it in their game…it doesn’t make a non-shooter suddenly an offensive threat. In fact, without the threat of shooting, defending cutters is like a day off for the other team. 2 PGs can work if (at least)one of them shoots like Dame or CJ. There’s just no compensating for lack of outside shooting in todays NBA. You can probably cover for one bad shooting guard - but it’s a compromise you shouldn’t choose to make. Pushing that weakness to two PGs is indefensible.

i've always like Josh Hart, but the rumored 4 years $75 mil shows that salaries are increasing across the board. or at least the way the Knicks are spending (which is no surprise)

I saw this ... and was happy to see it... help quell people's rage when Kelle possibly goes for a similar amount (hopefully) or more

He's an excellent 2-way player. Make any team better in whatever role you give him...good to see the middle class isn't completely wiped out

Difference is...Josh Hart would be movable at that salary. He's an exceptional rebounder and defender, good size, solid BBIQ, and, oh yeah, 37% from 3.
Chuma should study Josh Hart reels...great model of a versatile heady multi-position player. Hopefully, Chuma takes notes from Ingles...I still think Chuma's got a place on this team, but (like Isaac) this should be the last try.

Orlando just had their 2nd best ever FT% line in franchise history; the best ever was the preceding year. This team can shoot when it matters!
Last year the Magic took nearly 400 more attempts than the preceding year; that is they hit the freebies in volume attempts. That is beautiful! Specifically the 2022/23 Magic took 5.3 more FT attempts per game than the 2021/22 Magic.
It was 90s old-school to get a lot of 3-point plays through and-1's. The Magic could perfect that again as a new (i.e. old) approach to fabricating points !!!!!
If Orlando makes the playoffs this year, I expect to see that Banchero has AVERAGED 7 made FTs per game!

Looks like the Magic are getting some backlash for donating to DeSantis.

Waste of $50K. Give that to The Donald instead who is demolishing that group of bought and paid for politicians. Except for Vivek, he’s cool.

Wait, we donated to a candidate involved in a pissing contest with our sponsor? That's kind of dope

Yeah, DeSantis has been exposed as a real douchebag. I doubt if he ever wins another election.GGforever wrote:basketballRob wrote:Looks like the Magic are getting some backlash for donating to DeSantis.

Yeah, potentially losing your sponsorship is real "dope."

What if Disney wants Ron to be President so he can leave Fl and leave them alone.
Certainly makes sense in the current landscape to go politically for the right, especially when it comes to taxes and economy.

Attaching your team to a donation is actually monumentally **** stupid as an ownership. Owners donate to Republicans/Democrats or even both all the time, but the Orlando Magic entity has zero business being affiliated with any side.
It's one thing who individual owners/players support or not, which is totally their call, but the fact that you can turn off players here already or ones from coming in from things like this is what makes it dumb.

Ignoring the fact that DeSantis has zero chance of winning, even if he somehow did, it would only broaden the scope of his unconstitutional political targeting. It would in no way get him off Disney's back. So they realistically have nothing to gain from this. It only makes them look stupid, sponsoring an entity that openly donates to a politician they are in the midst of a heated legal battle with. If I were Disney, I would revoke the sponsorship ASAP.
And I've become well aware over time that this forum is populated largely by out-of-towners with little knowledge of Orlando's local political landscape ("It's Florida, they must all be conservatives, right?"), but for anyone who needs reminding, Orlando & Orange County as a whole by-and-large do not "go for the right" politically. We've collectively said "no thanks" to DeSantis already, who has only pissed us off more substantially in the time since by trying to stick us all with Disney's bill after screwing their tax situation out of sheer spite, among numerous other transgressions. So all they are doing by making this donation in the organization's name is alienating their own customer base while giving money to a guaranteed loser.
Many Orlando residents already know full well who owns the team (and how bad they are at it), which makes supporting them enough of an ask even without these extra hijinks, but this is really pushing it. At this rate we may not see the team's attendance or viewership improve even if the team itself finally does, and they'll only have themselves to blame.

Weren't NBA teams donating to BLM to find out Patrisse Cullors was using that money to buy herself house and did withdrawal of money by paying own brothers for "security and intelectual services" while in same time supporting crime /looting?
Once you tangle yourself into political BS it becomes two way steet. I see bunch of snowflakes on reddit cry how they will quit team.
Still love how NBA is all about empowerment... until Hong Kong topic surfaces. Than they turn into "shut up and dribble" league.

I would be thrilled to see Disney pull their sponsorship. Never liked their name on our jerseys to begin with, Its always felt cheesey and gimmicky. Plus, Disney is political in its own sense and I don't want my team attached to their views.
I grew up on Orange Ave. All my family still live there. You have a good mix of red and blue (mostly blue). Man, no one is talking about Desantis, Biden, Trump, etc. If your from Orlando you should know true locals don't get wrapped up in this junk and tend to operate as usual. Especially Magic fans, you really think this is going to stop people from showing up to Amway? Real magic fans don't care, tourists won't care, and casual fans with free tickets and beer vouchers ... they don't care.
Nothing happens from this. You are sensationalizing the hell out of it
