NBPA: Orlando Magic donation to GOP/Ron DeSantis doesn’t represent player views

This seems like a bit of an overreach to me. The team supported player protests. It let them express their views during uneasy times. But because of where they donated, it’s problematic? Why do they even need to make a statement? If the donation was to the current admin or Gavin Newsom, would they release a statement?

Did Jonathan Isaac match?

It's just too funny.

Things I've learned about RealGMers 2020-2023 - Lots of right wing nut jobs.

Refrain from posting off-topic insults, as they do not promote healthy discussions.

just because there are two sides doesn't mean both sides are valid or deserve respect. Just because NBA team supported players protesting for BLM/Kenosha/George Floyd or anything else that is preaching equality and justice doesn't mean players need to support the team owners right to donate to proud racists and MAGA scum.

OP, can you find other examples of teams (not individual owners) making direct campaign contributions? It doesn't seem like common practice.

The Devos family have been donating to ring wing candidates since they've owned the Magic. This isn't worth getting upset over. Most of the NBA owners support/vote republican. It's not like I'm going to stop watching NBA basketball because of it. I simply do not care.

Its not that at all - I'm a centrist. The problem is when people go "oh i can't imagine why its such a big deal" when the candidate is the 2nd most polarizing figure (shrouded in controversy) on the right. Like get a clue.

and the reality is that there are a select few politicians that are going to bring noise with your support. De Santis is one of them. So they should be prepared for people to be upset.

But it does represent the recent Orlando tradition of backing a losing team.

The DeVos family can donate however they want personally but if the donation is from *the organization* I'd expect players to feel a certain way about it. I'm not comfortable with an organization making any political donation, personally

So why didn't they simply donate for themselves, instead of it sounding like the Magic team donated?
