After watching Porzingis play in the qualifying games last summer you could see KP was going to have a good yr which is exactly what happened. Laurie Markkanen balled out and emerged as a start with the Jazz . These Euro FIBA games show who are ready to play high quality basketball no matter which league.

One of the most striking examples of that was during to the 2014 World Cup in Spain. Gobert was coming off a rookie season where he collected a bunch of DNP and very limited playing time in general. In the quarters, with France missing Tony Parker they were supposed to get soundly beaten by the hosts. Instead Gobert absolutely dominated the Spanish frontcourt that included both Gasol brothers and prime Ibaka. He would go on to become a starter during the following season and the rest is history.

France was 3rd in the last World Cup, 2nd in the Olympics and 2nd in the European Championships beating the US twice along the way. It's the same core albeit slightly older but it remains one of the best if not the best defensive unit in the tournament.

Spain are the defending champs and while that success was driven by their golden generation that has since mostly retired, it's not like they have faded into the background. They just won the European Championships last year. They also have the coaching edge on just pretty much everyone in the field.

Those two teams have a much better track record than anyone outside the US in recent years so it's odd to not even give them a mention. On the other hand, Canada always seems to be less than the sum of its parts, Australia looks a bit light in the frontcourt and Serbia's roster is a bit bland without Jokic and Teodosic. I'm a big Franz Wagner fan and if he takes anotoher step forward this summer, Germany has some decent depth (including old friends Mo Wagner, Schröder and Theis) around him.

It will be interesting how this plays out. Lansdale is important, but it's going to really matter how Cooks and White adjust to international play.

They haven't been big parts of the tram in the past. Nick Kay punches above his weight internationally, but on talent you'd hope they can reduce his role substantially.

Funny seeing an Aussie squad without Baynes manning the middle.

It would be amazing if we could medal. Plenty of talent, interesting period of transition from the Mills/Ingles/Delly/Baynes the through to the younger big guards (Giddey, Green, Daniels, Thybulle)

Ultimately team USA will be too young and inexperienced for FIBA basketball.Im not going to be shocked at all if they lose.

That's unfortunate. I hope he makes a full recovery. Denver has now lost Green, Brown and Cancar from their championship bench so we are going to find out really quickly if all those rookies they have drafted can actually play.

World cup, and a championship team with some sudden holes.

Jack White, opportunity is knocking...

The U.S. easily handled Puerto Rico in a warm up game. Starting PG for Puerto Rico was old friend Tremont Waters who put up some nice numbers, leading Puerto Rico in scoring with 17 points. He also had 3 Assists, and 5 steals.

Rumours here are that the Boomers will cut either White or Cooks, as well as either Green or Daniels. (Delly was already cut)

Seems wild to me, but there ya go. So Duop Reath and Nick Kay will be in, as well as Dante Exum.

They Cut Dellavedova?
What's Wrong with this picture???

Side Note:
There should be 15 players, on these International Teams. If for nothing else, then injury purposes alone.

U.S. looking good, easily handling Slovenia. Germany beating Canada in a close contest, and crushing China. Old friends Dennis Schroder, and Daniel Theis playing well for Germany. Schroder will be suiting up for the Raptors this season, and Theis with the Pacers.

I would have cut him too.
He struggled during the last NBL season. Still a decent player, but was a surprise he got a call up to Sac.

With Ingles and Mills in particular, there was a thought that we needed to introduce youth now, and split the retirements. Delly, along with those guys and Baynes have been instrumental in building a meaningful team culture, along with Nick Kay.

If Delly was there, it would have been as a fifth guard, assistant coach, culture carrier. Looks like they have gone with Exum instead. I probably would have gone with neither. I think Giddey, Green and Daniels all need to be in, and Daniels is fine for that deeper rotation guard role.

But respect for Delly. He's done more with less than almost anyone, and been great.
