Isn't this heavily driven by overall value of the league, it's tv revenue and everything? Just look at the salaries, it's really not a surprise.
For lease.

The tv deal is a huge reason why mid players are getting massive contracts.

We're talking about overall value which is dependent on yes, national TV deals in the US but also all the revenue NBA teams make overseas. The NBA is extremely popular everywhere else in the world whereas hockey and baseball aren't even close. I work in finance and I find that hockey fans here in Canada act like people who work at the Canadian subsidiaries of global brands. They think what they're doing is very meaningful and it very well is locally, but to their worldwide HQ normally in the US, Canada is really treated like a rounding error.

Also, a lot of Raptors fans really underestimate the impact that VC had on the city. I remember travelling for work in the States back in 2009, well after VC was traded, and American coworkers would tell me they really don't know anything about Toronto other than Vince Carter LOL (they didnt even know where Toronto was on the map back then). Or travelling to China (before the Championship year) if you mention Toronto and NBA, the first thing they think of is VC.

I wonder what their methodology is.

Phoenix just sold for $4B if I'm not mistaken and they have them valued at $3B. It's kind of addressed in the first Twitter comments, but just with a hand-wavy "sometimes teams sell for more than their Sportico valuation."

Point being, if the Raptors were to actually be put up for sale, I'd expect the price to be $4.5-5B+. I suppose that is true for most teams though, so the ranking likely still is what it is.

The Oilers valuation would be half of what it is without McDavid.

With the $6bil sale of the Commanders, the NFL dream in Toronto is officially dead after all these decades.

It's amazing to see what Elizabeth Blackburn and Joe Burrow have done to the Bengals valuation. Who Dey!

NBA has done an incredible job marketing and growing the game. Take notes, Bettman.

Let's be honest. A good amount of hockey players, and even the hockey culture is racists. If everybody was really accepted, the game would grow faster worldwide, and NHL teams would be worth more. Basketball/NBA is more inclusive. That's why the league is blowing up, imo

it's cost and accessibility more than anything. You just need a ball and hoop to play basketball. There's atleast one park with a hoop in every neighbourhood across the country. Same with soccer, you just need a ball and a couple of backpacks to use as goal posts. Hockey and Baseball requires a lot more and costs a lot more.

Football is weird since it is so ingrained in american culture.

Hockey is a niche sport and the NHL is a boring league, which is committed to keeping itself boring.

Overall the NHL is more popular than the NBA, but the Raptors and the Jays don't have the same regional restrictions as the NHL teams. So they should always be top 2 in the country, even leaving aside the difference in the league values.

Hockey is more popular in Canada. But worldwide, its not in the same league as basketball.

Not a coincidence that winter laden countries love hockey but I think it's even fading there, as the cost is fairly extreme now to be a competitive player. There's a reason football is the number 1 sport in the world, play it anytime, anywhere with almost anything that can roll. Basketball is getting up there for similar reasons. Both also don't have the brutality associated with it as American football - not counting the fans of course ;)

If the Leafs ever win the Cup, we'd go back to playing 2nd fiddle. Dont kid yourselves.

Winning is the most important thing and we just had our most winning-est decade in franchise history. Let's see where our current path takes us before we start blowing our load.

Yes. Meant to note that's for Canada.

I mean I'm not going to call a sport trash but yeah to your 2nd point. I'm on the younger end compared to most folks here so I saw it first hand as a kid. The Basketball takeover was real. Every kid was playing it or soccer.

I think a lot of people were interested in playing hockey but it's really expensive and the hockey culture is absolutely toxic and borderline racist if you don't look like them.
