The math isn’t bad and won’t be bad until we get to time to re-up Randle/Brunson.

Let's also not forget the average NBA team salary going into 2023-24 is over $160mm, and the salar floor is over $120mm. Any playoff team is going to be around the luxury tax mark of $165mm and likely over it to some extent. We punted on talent consolidation this offseason, so there will for sure be pressure to do something over the next 12 months.

We have Dolan's trillionaire tile floor garage and we've filled it with Toyota Camries. We got good deals on them, but we aren't going to compete in any race or truly get laid. The dust has settled and we have no top 10 players.

Again if these weren't mostly CAA clients I'd believe they had some 9D Chess plan to get a top 10 player. But I think it's mostly just Rose glad handing Dolan who will accept 1st and 2nd round exits. In return Leon Rose and his son scrape cash into the CAA coffers.

Problem in the Miami series is that he became gun shy, which is why he's been traded so much to begin with. Once he gets nervous and afraid to shoot the three his value as a player plummets, he shot 24% from three and was passing them up constantly.

maybe if the star trade emerges this year but if not they're gonna have to pay him rather than lose him for nothing.

knicks better hurry up and find something though because they're only gonna have grimes on a rookie scale deal and a bunch of picks that aint gonna be much. they had 4 rookie scale players last summer. now they have 2.

Hart got the contract pretty much everyone expected, at a price, after adjusting for the uptick in cap, is pretty much where it should be, and now the doom patrol members are out in force that the Knicks are a .500 team, oh noes, no flexibility, no one will want a single player etc etc.

Pretty fancy thoughts for fandom of a team that absolutely sucked ass for 20 years.

I'll manage to somehow enjoy a .500 or so ballclub with decent players who aren't complete assh*les for a few years. Well, I'll probably just try to antagonize people.

I can't see any reason why we can't at least duplicate last years record. Especially considering we went 17-8 after acquiring Hart, including the last two losses where both Brunson and Randle were sitting. None of these guys are over the hill or declining. Most of them haven't even peaked yet. We have good chemistry and continuity. So I think we'll be well over .500 again and finish up around 50 wins

we plan on operating as an above the cap team for the foreseeable future so the $$$ don't really matter. By not opting out he helped us bring in Donte.

I don't really like this move if this is the team we move forward with. We don't have enough talent.

However, if we do lose significant depth b/c we do address the talent issue (i.e. Joel Embiid, Doncic ), then any coach would like Donte and Hart as guard/forwards off the bench - even at this price point, especially considering the above post and rising cap.

At some point you can’t keep enough dollars free in order to keep max slots open every year, and it’s not like these guys are waiting to get to free agency. They’re getting their hometown bonuses and then demanding trades, so free agency isn’t the way to go. The Knicks might actually be playing this just right. It’s almost shocking. We don’t have a single contract in the top 50 in the entire league. Just keep adding value contracts that are easily readable and hope we can add talent via trade.
