giardi abuses young pitchers AND has head butted with ownership...with the yankees, that is a POISONOUS combination....Joe is the wrong man for the job

If you think that the Yankees will handle their youngsters the same way the Marlins front office does, then I don't even know what to say to you. Nardi Contreras and Cashman are in charge of how the young pitchers are handled, not Girardi. Joe Girardi isn't the one who says "Okay, Hughes can only throw 180 innings this year, and Joba only 150." That is the job of the front office, and the Marlins front office failed miserably. All Girardi did was use the guys on his roster. If that's a crime, then he is guilty.

And he doesn't butt heads with the owner, the two simply did not get along. That happens in this world, even Joe Torre doesn't get along with everybody, even Derek Jeter. You say it as though Girardi has a track record of getting into fights with every owner he has ever come across.

and wat happens when he tells the front office to not tell him how to run the team? he has a bad track record with young pitchers, and with not getting along with management...that is a dangerous combo coming into to manage the yanks

Umm, if Girardi tells Cashman that it is HIS team and HE wants Hughes to throw 210 innings next season, then I will give up my spot as moderator and even stop posting completely.

Come on, be realistic. All of this is discussed in these interviews for the job. They ask questions like "Will you use Rivera for 5 out saves?" "Will you let the starters work out of their own trouble?" "Will you let the starters throw 120 pitches if necessary?" And you're fooling yourself if you don't think Cashman laid things out for Girardi of how things will work in the organization. Girardi is well aware that Cashman and Co. will be setting innings limits, etc. for these young guys, and he knows that by accepting the job he is accepting those facts.

Hopefully Girardi lets our veteran pitchers like Wang, Mussina and Pettittte throw 110-120 pitches in a good majority of their outings this year. No more 90 pitch outings and quick hooks to the bullpen that Joe was famous for. He could even do the same thing for Hughes and Kennedy... I don't think it's a stretch that both of them could pitch 200 innings next year (though that would be the absolute maximum that they should pitch).

sorry, i just dont trust Joe.....i can see him leaving in the young ones and not listening to the front office b/c he is trying to win now and then get into disagreements and spats with the front office.....and im sure he'll say the right things now to get the job, but his track record states he is a young pitcher abuser and has problems getting along with management, which is something the yanks dont need as we head into a new era

Where did he ABUSE these guys? You're not backing anything up, just making baseless comments. If the front office doesn't shut them down then they pitch every 5th day, it is a very simple concept. How Girardi is held accountable for that is beyond me, please explain.
