Jrue must be TOP3 with Kidd and Frazier

Jason Kidd: For me it comes down to Kidd or Frazier, with West probably a clear #3. Sort of like Jordan v. Moncrief defensively, I like Frazier's bursts of dominance and ability to take over a game more but even more important to me is consistency, play in and play out. That's where I think Kidd has the advantage of Frazier or West, even though his offense is overrated so much that he has become one of my least favorites.

Notice that my position is different than it was in 2018 as a numbers of excellent posts have convinced me that I was underrating Kidd and West and overrating Gary Payton.

I actually liked Mookie Blaylock's defense more as Stockton had trouble with other top PGs particularly head to head in the playoffs though his off ball impact remained high.

You know it’s somewhat BS and dumb but arguing for carusos prime would be pretty funny here lol

If you’re into RAPM and all of that stuff his multiyear data is basically DPOY level (like, right under/over Gobert depending on the years), which is basically unheard of, so if you wanna run away with that lol

It’s cap but it’d be funny if someone wanted to go all the way

I think

Marcus Smart deserves to be in this discussion on the basis of Peak.

I think Caruso, Tony Allen, GPII, are also worthy but they maybe don't play enough minutes.

Vote for Kidd as others have mentioned. Huge tank/motor, big for prototypical guard size in the sense he was strong and fast. Super high IQ

He impacted the defensive side of the ball as more like an elite wing in regards to guard position.

I actually think his defence was more important than his offence holistically.

Pretty cool this thread resurfaced :D

My personal take would be giving Frazier or Kidd the top nod here. Since this project has been conducted too, I would say Smart/Jrue/Caruso all have established rock-solid cases to be Top 10 PG defenders at their peak - whether it's eye test, film, or impact used to support each of them here - with Smart being damn close to #1 imo.

Caruso in 2022-23:

- 4.1 in D-EPM (1st in the league)
- 1.83 Luck Adjusted D-RAPM (1st in the league)
- 2.97 D-LEBRON (7th in the league)

Dude was a meme on LAL no doubt (and a very impactful player under the radar, that too). On film, he looks like a monster often coming to the right place at the right time and making several ball-handlers rethink their initial play-choice. Great core strength, hip/foot movement, with stellar ball-hawking/defensive playmaking/handsyness to amplify his already good awareness.

BBI tracking grades him very highly too, FWIW.

For me, it’s Jason Kidd.

Look at his D-PIPM

D-Lebron generally overrates bigs too

Yeah Caruso’s insane on defense, you could probably argue for him here, but I’d probably want someone switchover

Caruso honestly can check some wings too bro is strong

Given avaliability, I think it's Jason Kidd, with nobody but Walt Frazier even being close.
This place is a cesspool of mindless ineptitude, mental decrepitude, and intellectual lassitude. I refuse to be sucked any deeper into this whirlpool of groupthink sewage. My opinions have been expressed. I'm going to go take a shower.

Is Marcus Smart in the PG or SG conversation?
