Meh he doesn't owe us anything. Just hope he doesn't go to a team I hate like Miami.

Yup. Waiting until next summer was always the smart financial move. Keeping his options open is also smart. I'm not going to spend the next year all worked up about it.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I mean if the Bucks were to trade for Dame next week (or even Collin Sexton) this Giannis interview would seem that much more like a shove in that direction.

Waiting on the extension and putting pressure on the front office are both totally fine things to do. Just hope Giannis also looks at himself in the mirror. His heath and limitations have played a part in us failing not making it back to the finals. I also hope he knows that we moved on from our title winning coach in part because of him, and any future move the franchise makes is because of him.

How do the bucks show that commitment? At this point it's almost math. I mean I'm not sure how good of a GM Horst is, but what's the play? Trading draft picks? Well guess what, we've basically traded them all. So we can't get better through the draft, we can't get better players by trading for them because we have no draft picks and we're capped out. So what's the play Giannis?

Giannis isn't saying the Bucks haven't done everything they can to win, he's just saying as long as that remains the case he wants to stay.

That he is taking the lack of preparation as not caring. Why should he make the sacrifices with his family and put in all the effort to be let down by his teammates not giving the same effort? Maybe the past two years teammates have been coasting?

This was my main takeaway and question as well. Who hasn't been fully committed?

I don't know the comments "We have to win another one" And "everybody’s going to sacrifice time away from their family like I do." Sound very intentional. Could be wrong.

You can argue that Giannis gets his family accommodated more than any other athlete's family in American sports.

This one is different. He went to the NY Times and gave an interview to a reporter, who frankly I hadn’t heard of before.

The big statements I took away:

-Don’t ask about an extension. I’m not signing one this year.

-I’m not staying for any type of rebuild around me.

What I’m reading into it is his recent knee surgery put the first fear of god in him that his career isn’t infinite. He’s passed the halfway point or more. He wants a big move.

I think we need to put it all out there for Dame and hope Portland bites.

Go all in and figure out a way to get Dame. All you have to do is top the Heat’s garbage offer.

Jrue to a third team for young players the Blazers want or expiring salary and picks, Portis to a third team for one more late first to pass along to the Blazers, Allen’s expiring to the Blazers, Marjon to the Blazers, 29 first and 28/30 swaps to the Blazers.

So to be clear we hired a coach mainly because our star wanted us to but that same star player won't commit to sticking around with that coach? Lovely
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Say we did trade Giannis and Thanasis wasn't included in the deal. How long until T's papers are stamped?

12 minutes? 5 minutes? 48 seconds? Waived the night before just so there's less paperwork on the day?

The other team would gladly take on Thanasis' contract as part of the deal.

Yep this is a pretty big nothing burger. We've allready known since he signed his last contract the window might close in 2 years unless there able to make a big splash trade and they probably wouldn't have any ability to make that trade untill 2 years from now.

They'll be in the same spot they were in the last time. Make a big splash (Ala Jrue) or risk Giannis wanting out. WTF are people acting like this is news?

Giannis owes us nothing so just going to get that out there, but man i'm not sure what he expects. This team is maxed out at this point. Can Horst flip Jrue or Midds into Dame or something like that? Doubtful, but I guess in the modern NBA where players run teams its not that crazy. Giannis has his own issues he needs to address as well.

I'm not sure if its even a hot take at this point, but would anyone be surprised if he has some degenerative issues with his knee? If thats the case and he knows that he only has lets say 3-5 years of prime ball left then these comments make a lot more sense to me.

The time away from family line does seem intentional.

It also comes after a particularly disastrous year for Middleton.

FanSpo’s trade machine says:

Recently Signed
Khris Middleton cannot be traded because 3 months have not passed since he was signed. He will be eligible to be traded after Oct 04, 2023.

That accurate?

Think this is just brilliant PR by Giannis, trying to keep pressure on the front office and the ownership to field the best team they possibly can and not cheap out. I think Giannis thinks that we’re very close to another championship, but we may have to make one more big move.

I personally think that if we win another one, he’ll be ok with a one year retool to get the franchise ready for the next 3-4 years of contention. But he doesn’t want that to happen until we win another one, so this is his way of keeping the pressure up.

Not sure what he means about the family time though. Sounds like he’s calling out one or two players in particular.
