Getting Giannis, or in the Bucks case keeping him, is a 100 meter race and 29 teams are at the start line and the Bucks are at the 70 meter line. Yeah its possible that they completely fall on their face and someone else ends up winning the race, but the Bucks are prohibitive favorites.

Giannis: "I'm not going to sign right now, you know what I want."
Bucks: "Come on, we just want to make you happy! We signed Thanasis!"
Giannis: "I just don't see how you're serious about a championship roster..."
Bucks: "Come on, we are!"
Giannis: "You signed Thanasis!"

NBA players change their minds in this kind of **** quickly so I really don't care what's said/rumored until next summer. Only thing id take from this is Giannis isn't in favor of any type of rebuild, but I figured that was the case.
Next summer it's pretty simple, you offer the extension and if he signs it great. If he doesn't then you have a decision, but hell Giannis is so good and getting players like him so rare I might still keep him for one last year and try to win it even if he basically told them he was leaving.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

If the bucks plan on staying in Milwaukee - regardless of how good he is, you unload him the moment you need to. Love him, but if he doesn’t believe in the roster at the point I don’t imagine they win anyway.

Giannis's approach is a smart one for a guy committing to winning titles. Make sure to hold Wes and Jimmy's feet to the fire.

Signing an extension locks in the amount of salary a player will earn. It does not lock in what team that player will play for.
If Giannis signed an extension in September and later decided he wanted to play for another team, the Bucks would likely accommodate him and trade him to that team. The Bucks would surely seek a number of assets in return, commensurate with Giannis' skill level at that point, but they would still be better off trading him than keeping him in a situation that he did not want to be in. The only problem would be if his skills declined significantly and his salary was too much for what other teams could expect him to produce on the court. Any max contract is going to bring back a lot of assets in return, because Giannis is not going to want to leave the Bucks for a team far under the salary cap. He wants to be on a contender.
At the same time, if the Bucks can't contend, the Bucks should not want to have an aging super star as their centerpiece.
At some point the Antetokounmpo era in Milwaukee will come to an end. Most likely that will occur after Giannis has played his best basketball. Bucks fans will understandably be disappointed to see him leave, but they probably won't be saying goodbye to a dominating MVP candidate. And that will lessen the sting of his inevitable departure.
I don't think Bucks fans would look forward to watching an aging Giannis languishing on a team that is not a contender. Nor would Bucks fans want to keep Giannis if he is 2nd or 3rd option on a Super Max contract. Seems more likely than not that things will work out to the benefit of both parties.
Meanwhile, enjoy Giannis and don't begrudge teams that will twist themselves into salary cap pretzels hoping to have a chance at paying top dollar for a declining superstar.

I think its as simple as a Giannis doesn't want to be on a crap team and the issue is our core of Jrue/Khris/Lopez are pretty much done after the next 2 years if not sooner as a true contending piece. The writing is on the wall, it doesn't a rocket science to see we're at the end of the rope. Horst has backed us into a corner with very few options, doubling down on these guys will be a mistake and I will not live & let live with the hanger on losers that ruined this teams chance at another title.

Giannis' comments show he's all about winning titles, but Sam Mitchell didn't take them well, as he called out the Bucks superstar for not taking accountability as the team's leading player.
"This is the second time in a playoff loss that people are questioning why you weren't guarding the other team's best player," Mitchell said on Sirius XM NBA Radio. "And you sit there with the same answer, 'Well, the coach didn't put me on him.'"
“Yet you can come to the press conference and make all these demands, and say, ‘If this don't happen, if this don't happen...' Well, what about in the series, when you could have done something about the game? When you could have said, ‘Hey coach, I got Jimmy.’ Where was all that then? I don't want to hear all that. In the time to step up to be a star, you got quiet. What you talking for now?" Sam added.
"I'm tired of these guys pretending to be superstars. They get the money, they get the accolades, but don't want what comes with it, and what comes with it is putting the team on your shoulders, carrying them sometimes. And stop going to the owner screaming, 'I need an All-Star at every position in order to win, or I'm leaving,'" Mitchell concluded.

I dunno I remember Giannis having one of the literal greatest closing games of all time, but my short-term memory extends back several years, I'm built different.

jrue on jimmy with giannis in help mode was the right call imo.
i just wish giannis didnt coast as much in that role. he was hurt so maybe thats it but he wasnt the same help defender all season as he was the year we won.
i also would have liked him to shoot his fts the way he did when we won. those two aspects is where i would have taken issue if i had a chip on my shoulder

Get therapy, Sam. You're too old to still be mad about not being able to help get KG out of the first round.

I'd have liked Giannis to demand that matchup, and I'd like it if he was a more vocal leader, and also Mitchell is barking up the wrongest tree.

Over the years he seemed to really love Giannis the person & the player.
I think this story caused some fallout with image he has of Giannis. Maybe he's errantly trying to steer Giannis back into being the Giannis he envisions.

Til Jrue looked cooked & it was evidently Wes' turn. But Jrue waan't having it. *
Obviously hitting FTs helps too.

The Giannis on Jimmy stuff is weird and outdated Bubble criticism. We've seen that in each of the last two matchups against Miami, the best defender to stick on Jimmy is a stout-but-still-wing-size, point-of-attack guy (PJ, Wes). That Jrue really got in his own head and didn't defer to Wes as much in either of the last two games, isn't exactly Giannis' fault.
