Re: FIBA World Cup - Banchero, F. Wagner, M. Wagner, Bitadze and Ingles All Set to Play
Like Ive said before, Paolo would be worthy of a top 5 pick even if you took away all his skills. Ya he may not be some explosive leaper, but the combination of size, strength, and agility is pretty freakish.
But then you throw in he has a solid handle for his size as well, nothing broken with his jumper at all and has good vision and is a willing passer for his size as well. The dude is different.
He just happened to come a year before Wemby. So his entire rookie year everyone was so preoccupied about the potential of Wemby. And now this year everyone will still be focused on Wemby.
To me the best thing about Paolo last year was, he didnt do anything that something out of his ability. So its not like he shot 43% from 3 or something and a big decline could be expected. Paolo put up 20/7/4, but the clear path for probable growth and improvement is very easy to see.
And I think you see some of that with this US team. Playing a different position, playing different roles and so on. The dude has so much untapped potential and versatility.

Paolo at center is a very dangerous weapon. I hope his comment about his role on the magic doesnt mean he wont do it here, but he played some center last year so i think he is open about it. To be even more dangerous we would need two big forwards who can protect the rim next to him. Wagner/Isaac/Banchero would be hell of a change of pace but its hard to count on JI health.
Now we need to see how Paolo responds when his shot is off. He wont score 20+ a game every game. Player like Edwards will want his share of shots.

My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

They just had a bad game. I’m sure they will be better next time. Glad Paolo had a good game.

A JI-Paolo small ball frontcourt is definitely something we need to see more of. Hopefully God can "completely heal" Isaac again.

The funny thing about the Paolo highlights is he wasn’t even doing anything crazy. He just took what the defense gave him and made some jump shots. One of those “quiet” 20 point games we know all about.

P5 at Center could work in spurts but it's something I would never want to see full time. Apparently he wouldn't either

World cup shows massive difference in competition and talent level among nba players vs non nba players.
Fact that Ronda Hollis Jefferson is basically unguardable and Patty Mills & Willy Hernagomez look like Magic & Hakeem is best example of it.
We all know Banchero is great talent, but you won't learn much about him and his NBA abilities by watching him on stacked team beating on competition that is below college level.
There are several teams at world cup who's path toward world cup was beating bunch of teams with 0-2 players taller than 6'6.
Also about Ivery's Coast League, i remember reading last year that one player said most players work "real jobs" as well as play as "professionals".

Crazy similarity tho
Only difference in hands ( Ronda being lefty) and gap in talent
Fact he plays for Jordan makes it even more funny/sad/nostalgic
Damn i miss Kobe
