I think this is less about what could happen and more about what should happen. I see it as less of a threat than it is just him playing the cards he has to get the best supporting cast he can get. And not just that, but the proper motivation and commitment from his teammates.

I have no doubt we will do whatever it takes to redo the roster if this core fails again.

We've seen that in each of the last two matchups against Miami, the best defender to stick on Jimmy is a stout-but-still-wing-size, point-of-attack guy (PJ, Wes). That Jrue really got in his own head and didn't defer to Wes as much in either of the last two games, isn't exactly Giannis' fault.

Giannis was also clearly spent by the 4th quarter in the games following his return. He rushed back and it showed on the court. He wasn’t reliable on offense in the 4th as is, now you want him to take on the Jimmy responsibility on the other end as well? That’s crazy.

Yeah, it's not a good look for Giannis to make a statement like this when your season ended in the 1st round to an #8 seed, with the final game of the series being a 2pt loss in overtime as you went 10-23 from the free throw line.

LOL that didn’t take long.

Marc Stein: The Lakers and the Knicks are already being mentioned as franchises presumed to interest Antetokounmpo down the road if he does decide to move on from Milwaukee, which just made a slew of moves (re-signing Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez and replacing Mike Budenholzer as coach with Adrian Griffin) to try to appease its face of the franchise.

Giannis has opened himself up for a lot more criticism now. I hope he's ready for it. Also if he ends up in NYC or LA he better be prepared for a little more aggressive media. He won't just have Eric Nehm and Jim O lobbing him softball questions while wearing Giannis jerseys.

Absolutely no question our lame ass media here is like high school compared to the media on his ass in NY n LA would love to see the press clippings in either city if giannis goes 12-25 from the line in a 2 point OT loss or giannis airballing 3 pointers 15 seconds into the shot clock

Would love for one national guy to use Giannis' words a little bit in how they're reading them: he does not want a rebuild. He sees his guys getting older and wants to, somehow, replace them on the fly without dipping out of the upper echelon. That's the challenge, nothing more. It's not about this year. Lots of ways to do it, none of them easy.

Yup, that's always been the challenge and we've talked about it a lot here. How do you retool, rather than rebuild, when you have 3 starters at 32, 33 and 35.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

"Forever Threat" sounds more like a biblical prophetization of impending nuclear annihilation more so than a guy who simply said "I just want the team to be in a good spot going forward before I sign on the dotted line".

He is right about one thing though. This IS the new era of superstar appeasement, i.e., we've seen it essentially doesn't matter even if a guy is locked up on a long-term contract. So in regards to that....why does any of this extension hand-wringing even matter? If Giannis is going to demand out, then it's going to happen whether he's an expiring contract, or if he's locked up for the next 4-years.

If you want to feel better about our situation with Giannis, you should listen to the last Ricky Sanchez podcast.

On one hand, they both say they'd take Giannis. On the other hand, there is a decent discussion about how Giannis game may age like Westbrook's.

It sucks we're back in this speculation situation, but we have arguably gotten Giannis prime. Does he have many more years of that prime? Maybe, maybe not. We just need to really savor this upcoming season.

I get the idea but Embiid's not a great guy to compare. I take the odds of Giannis adapting his game over Embiid's ability to keep playing past 33.

Good point there. It would be vintage Knicks for them to give us every last thing they have and Giannis' career doesn't age well.

Yeah, I get that Giannis has all of a sudden not looked like the epitome of durability he once was in recent years, but that's still an insane sentence to type out. Embiid has literally never made it through an NBA season without his body looking like he just went 10-rounds with a professional boxer. He's already played longer than I ever thought he would with those ticking timebomb feet and knees.

The Westbrook stuff is still really weird to me because Russ's decline has had almost nothing to do with his loss of athleticism. He's 34 and still one of the most athletic guards in the league. Barring a Big-3 injury (ACL, MCL, Achilles), Giannis is still gonna be one of the most athletic 7-footers in the league even when he's 33-34. Those guys tend to age just fine.

How much more money does Giannis make if he extends with the Bucks?

In theory he could extend and pull a Dame demanding a trade the year after.

Idk what the mechanics are of an extend and trade or sign and trade but those could be options for him too.

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
