Playing great team basketball is awesome and should be celebrated but Shai shows why superstars are so important even against that. He's completely taken over two 3rd quarters in this run so far and completely changed the game. There's no substitute in basketball for a true#1 on offense.

Shout out Latvia. The game was WAY more competitive than the score suggests. Great, unselfish team - this is what FIBA should be all about. Looked like the Spurs circa early 2010s. Was thinking to myself, "would they have been even better with Porz or would he have killed the unselfishness of this squad?"
Regardless, hope you guys beat Brazil (please) and Spain to get through the to the quarters with us.

SGA’s body control and handles are just so impeccably clean & tight. Stops on a dime with no wasted motion. So nice to watch.

Yep, he's exaggerating for effect but yeah american football has stoppage after every play with a 40 second play clock to setup the next play after the ref spots the ball.

Yes. Talent still trump this. (if you want “exciting” and fast pace and the likes, March Madness still trumps these tournaments and NBA games/playoffs)
So yeah i agree with you format and pace of FIBA is something special. But at the end of the day we want to see all the best players at a high level. But yes, scrubs vs scrubs can be fun too.
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am not going.

Yes, sorry, I get if you like NFL and if it's good, but the point, this culture is completely used to stoppage in sports. Lots of Euros can't take bb seriously to begin with even with minimal stoppage, cause of soccer bias, NBA is beyond belief bad now, USA audience simply been cooked alive like a frog. Gradually made this crap worse and worse and now 48 minute games takes like 160 minutes to play out, it's ridiculous....

To each their own. I'm american and didn't grow up with soccer so it has no appeal to me but it's gotta be the most popular sport in the world for a reason right? So i respect it even if it's not for me.

They have gotten away with the just foul everyone defense for years, but it looks this year that they are no longer allowing it. When Czech Republic played their qualifier games earlier, they were no longer doing all of the grabbing, pushing, shoving, pulling on defense, and now the same thing is happening to Finland in this World Cup.
It probably has to do with the fact that all of a sudden both teams were starting to have some good results, and so other teams probably started complaining about so much fouling.
Yeah I'm glad they have reduced that. Because there's a lot more grabbing pushing pulling going on here than in NBA or the NCAAs.

It's his ability to obliterate people with the first step and then counter into these insane step backs if the defender manages to stay in front of him. The result is that you can't overplay against Shai's drives and just wall off the rim. He'll go right at you and then teleport 2 steps back to generate a wide open 8 footer.
On top of all that his complimentary skills are very solid. He can shoot the ball well enough if you leave him open, his playmaking is excellent if you try to crowd him, and his point of attack defense is immense at this level of play. The Latvian point guards didn't even test his defense. They'd take one look at him and pass to the wing to get into screen action.

Like how Shai establishes all 3 levels in the 1st half, then takes what defense gives in the 2nd half.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

I see both sides to this argument. The NBA is the highest level of competition you will get in the world… and it’s not even close. So from that perspective, you’ve beaten the world’s best.
The world championships are a huge step down in talent, but use the name “world”, but you really haven’t beaten the best. It’s in name only.

I didn't grow up with it either, but several years ago became casual premier league fan and imo, at highest level, it is easily I think objectively the best sport. That said, it is only watchable for me at highest level, watching soccer scrubs is a torture, you still get that exiting Hitchcock thriller wibe where at any given moment everything can change, but scrubs in soccer are just boring and don't have it. I know some basketball fans are like that and only watch for NBA athleticsm, highest individual highs, but I myself do watch girls u16 basketball and enjoy it, where with soccer, even dutch league gets a little bit unwatchable to me. Premier league tho is where it's at.

I obviously love the Nba I've been watching it since i was a kid cause my late grandmother was a huge Lakers fan and we bonded over it but you definitely have a point. It culminated a couple years ago in that Suns Vs Clippers playoff game, this is unacceptable:
The league changed the review rules after this so it wouldn't happen again but the games are still too long. I guess this is where profit and the product clash. In pursuit of growth the league has added a ton of things that lead the run time. It's hard to go backwards from l once you do those things because no one likes to see their revenue drop. Idk what the solution is at this point.

It's probably a matter of culture or because I'm not used to watch it since being a kid but I think this is one of the most boring sports I've ever seen.
I could watch NFL, not my favorite but it is sometimes fun and I could get caught watching a game (especially during the play-offs).
But baseball... I'm sorry, it's probably me, but I can't. I don't see the purpose, any interest. I really don't understand why it's so popular in America, it's beyond me.

He also uses his body extremely well. If he doesn't get completely by his man he'll bump them to create space and then hit a turnaround or a step-back with the created space.
