Maybe more importantly, though, this is coming off Giannis publicly implying that his teammates are spending too much time with their families. It's a ragged joint, trying to pull those two things together.

This is a massive stretch based on his quote.

“I would not be the best version of myself if I don’t know that everybody’s on the same page, everybody’s going for a championship, everybody’s going to sacrifice time away from their family like I do. And if I don’t feel that, I’m not signing.”

No where does he say that those things aren't happening with the current team. The reason he hasn't signed is because it makes sense numbers wise to wait a year. Unless there is another quote out there you are without a doubt inferring things that aren't even there.

Feel free to square the circle of "I'm sacrificing the most time with my family" and "my brothers are on the team solely to keep me company." Do it in a way that the players on the team who've taken time away for family reasons over the past couple years buy it. It's not a good quote and I doubt I'm the only one who sees that reading of it. Why bring it up if it's never been an issue?
With that interview, the bit about family was the only thing that really raised an eyebrow for me. That is a statement that could cause some irritation.....and in some cases that we know of, that irritation would be warranted. His girl and kids and Even his mother is almost always with him and his brother is solely on the team to make him happy. I'm not sure what time he's sacrificing compared to anyone else.

The family stuff was really weird, especially from Giannis who is obviously a big family guy. Right off Buds brother dying and him getting fired days later, Khris’s father dying during the season, Jrue and his history of putting family before basketball, just didn’t understand that one. Spending time in the gym away from family isn’t going to win the bucks another ring and Giannis should know that.

I suggested that may be a possibility, but haven't personally seen him say so.

That was probably the dumbest thing Giannis has ever said to the media, surely rubbed teammates who he has won a championship with the wrong way. It's the dog days still but I don't like how the Giannis situation has been going lately

Giannis “too many guys are spending time with their family”

As Giannis forces the team to sign all his brothers

The vibe with this team just feels so far off right now.

At least the drama is interesting.
"Wes, Hill, Ibaka, Allen, Nwora, Brook, Pat, Ingles, Khris are all slow-mo, injury prone ... a sandcastle waiting for playoff wave to get wrecked. A castle with no long-range archers... is destined to fall. That is all I have to say."-- FOTIS

Interesting thought. That would be some 3 dimensional chess that would make some sense and technically how he played it in 2020 when he extended.

Only counter is the Bucks are on the verge of employing every know Giannis relative to try to keep him happy.

I hope it’s 3 dimensional chess

Agreed. Maybe Giannis takes his kids everywhere but he does a lot of traveling around the world and is involved with tons of business projects. That's all well and good but not exactly quality family time. We don't know what all goes on with these guys but it was an odd comment to make.

Can’t put trolling past Giannis because he has that type of goofy personality but it seemed to me that comment was just knit picking at a reason to keep his options open. The franchise has done everything to keep him happy. Signed his brothers, paid his favorite teammates, traded assets to put together a championship team and let him basically hand pick the new head coach.. not sure what else there could be to show more loyalty towards him?

I just hope there’s no bitter break up like Portland/Dame or Green Bay/Rodgers. That would be extremely disappointing.

I think there was something to that effect in the Mirin Fader biography of Giannis.

Like all of us who are older brothers, I suppose Thanasis and Giannis want to keep an eye on and look out for lil bro. But as you say, shrug.

Ah yes, that's it. Turned out it was a shrug though.

For me its the singular rogue comment Giannis made to the media. And when I say "mad" I mean I'm just disappointed. And when I say I'm just "disappointed" I mean I... don't... care... at... all... When Giannis is eurostepping through the lane like a gazelle ballerina right before stuffing it on someone's eye ball, or chasing down a block after giving up a half court head start, all while leading his team to 50+ wins and putting them in position to make a legit title run, I'm sure we're all really going to care that Alex was briefly signed or that Giannis made a comment.

Trying to be postive here. Is Thanasis doing anything defensively at the world cup? He doesn't look to be doing anything while not playing a lot.

I am guessing it is something going on behind the scenes. Possibly Giannis asking a specific person or persons multiple times to get together for practice and they are often busy with their family. It is well known that Giannis is very family orientated. He may feel bitter that others are not making similar sacrifices that he is, in order to better themselves and the chances for the Bucks to win more championships. He has seen first hand, how well hard work and determination has improved his game. If certain players are making similar pay to him, he might expect similar effort to be put in.

Two seasons already have passed since the Championship season. That's a lot of games and time to have animosity build when things go wrong.

Think there’s some over interpretation with Giannis’s comments, I think he’s more talking in generality about everybody being on same page sacrificing for the team and family being what he finds most important rather than a shot or nitpick at anyone.

Might even just be a comment to keep his baby mama off his ass. Maybe often when he goes to practice, he gets crap for leaving/being gone so much. Why are you going and nobody else is(granted he is a top player in the league, trying to be one of the all time greats)? That sometimes doesn't translate when you are the one in the relationship getting stuck with the kids all day all night for years. Not fair to her, when all the other wives and kids are chilling with their husbands.

I took the comment as.... IF THINGS CHANGE, for example not everyone is on the same page anymore, like not making family sacrifices, or not giving a **** about winning... Like (my interpretation) .. Bringing a harden type of player and now the culture is **** (as an example).

Like... A lot can change in a year. IF THE CULTURE changes before I re-sign, then that's a problem.

I don't think it was referring to the current team, but re-emphasizing the importance of the winning chemistry and maintaining being a contender.

the entire NYT article was to ensure the Bucks do not become attached to 2030 draft picks.
