Then in the following timeout he says to his team ‘this is f’ing bs we are playing against six guys right now’ I believe referring to the ref on the NZ team.

Just poor sportsmanship and a bad example for your team.

And again, ‘how do you want to go out, as winners or losers?’

That is not the way to talk to your team as the head coach. That isn’t inspiring or encouraging at all.

Guy is a hack.

Disappointing finish for Egypt, was pulling for the underdog but in the end their tempers and stupid coaching were to blame.

NZ are a decent team.

Onto the Japan game. Love watching the home crowd get behind this team.

YOu know when Denver or whoever there has that senior dance squad, its cheerleaders but old, brilliant idea to begin with... Milwauke will soon could have Antetokoumpo bros dance squad during timeouts.

It's funny how some people honestly believe that NBA consists exclusively of the best players in the world, when there are certain guys with specific non performance related roles, like Thanasis/Alex (just make Giannis happier and feel more comfortable), Haslem (agreements and locker room presence), Delly (finals experience and understands how egos of multiple star players on the same team can be managed) etc.

I obviously dont believe that, a lot of non NBA players are always better than at least 100 technically NBA players any given time. And 100 sounds like a lot, but NBA has over 400 players, and bottom 100 are always soon to be wash out nobodies most of the time. Yes, like first top 200 in the NBA are the best, maybe not top 200 best, but around the best. But bottom half of 8th.-15th. men, best Euro, Australia even CHina league guys can compete with these people.

That said, usually you think that even with scrubs, teams still sign players for basketball reason, they just miss. Giannis bros however have nothing to do with them being potential on court contributors, its just an outlier emberassment.

Love Japan’s backcourt when they are going well.

Tominaga 4/4 quick release threes!

Japan complete and utter meltdown in the 4th.

1/15 fg including 0/9 from 3 until the last minute or so. Just came out too cocky after a big lead and threw up junk.

Tavares for Cape Verde possibly ruined the comeback with his hot head and tech foul.

Very lucky to escape and get their Olympic spot Japan.

It was incredible seeing Tavares in this tourney, you would think player like him on team like Cape Verde, would put 25 ppg. on this team, but it was a good reminder how reliant he really is on his teammates to create for him. Amazing player who improved so much from his mid 20s, but yet again, Mr. DPOY was destroyed in pick and pop action and struggled to set a tone offensively.

So Japan and South Sudan qualify for the Olympics as expected.

New Zealand will get the Asia/Oceania spot for the QT.
Egypt will get the Africa spot for the QT.

Finland, Mexico and Lebanon(leading big against Iran) will get two other spots for the QT as well. 2 wins in the tournament.

Phillipines and Cote d'Ivoire will qualify for the QT as well with 1 win due to points margin.

The final spot will be either Angola or China. I looked it up but could not find anything about the tie breaker. Angola has a better point margin, but China won the direct matchup between the two. I don't know what the tie breaker is in this situation.

Montenegro, Greece and Georgia will join them from the main group stage. For now, more will follow.

That win will book you a ticket to the Olympic Qualifiying Tournaments next June. So it was not for nothing. 8-)

Not that you have the slightest of chances there, but still. Another tournament to get some experience from.

Thanks for the summary, i was racking up my brain with the +/- too.

I think China advances because the first tiebreaker will be the pts difference in their head to head matchup.

Personally i wanted a loss so our coach is insta-fired. But it was against China, our primary rivals this region. So yeah something to play in is nice, but as always this is participation trophy for Asian teams so not expecting much, you’re correct.

There will be 4 tourneys of 6 teams each and I think teams will be put into different pools based on the FIBA rankings maybe.

You know, so when they do the draw a group like Cote D'Ivoire, New Zealand, Phillipines, Bahrain, Mexico and Egypt doesn't happen.

That's why the chances are slim for small countries. They will be drawn against at least 2 juggernauts for sure.

Same in group I.
We, practically have 4 single elimination games on Sunday :

Canada vs Spain
Latvia vs Brazil
Serbia vs Dominican Republic
Italy vs Puerto Rico

4 Euros potentially dropping out like that. Or maybe Canada dropping out.

Only not sure about Latvia, even though they surprised many, but they can choke important matches.
For the rest I would consider European countries as favourites.
Tomorrow is awesome day for basketball and most important I can relax watching Lithuania for once.

What are the possible outcomes in those groups? What is the main tiebreaker?

Yup these are practically the 2nd round and some QF losers so definitely strong. FIBA is a moneymaking machine adding these OQTs and expanding it to Tier 4 teams.
