Re: 2023-24 Season Discussion and Speculation 3 - Post Free Agency Discussion
It's always fun watching the Ayton "haters" duke it out with the Ayton "defenders" lol. You'd think by now everyone would understand that no one is changing anyone's mind about him.
It will be interesting to see what his role looks like on this team. He's probably not going to get a lot of plays run to get him post touches with the way this team is built. Offense for him will likely continue to be pick and roll/pop, hunting mismatches, offensive rebounds, running the floor, and hustle plays. We'll need him to be a dominant defender more than anything.
Hopefully Vogel is able to press the magic button for him to find consistency. He's a 20/12 player easy when he's active and engaged, but that can be a quarter by quarter battle with him.

Outside of being on bad teams or with injuries he's always been a 15 ppg type player, when we don't have scorers we allow him to take extra jumpers but if we're healthy he shouldn't be needed to score more than his status quo, his lift needs to come from being all defensive team, if he can't do that with Vogel the pressure will get too much and Jones will probably ship him out for someone who can.

DA will make his own bed this yr… its on him to do whatever is needed. Would be refreshing if he grasps that. Everyone has a role. Would like to think hes not a pivotal player, but he is. Play ball DA…get your mind right
What ? Me Worry ?

I'm like a kid smacking a beehive at this point, its fun to watch yall get angry over any criticism of DA. Don't worry, when and if (thats a huge IF) the bee comes around and plants a stinger in my nose I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong. I'm pretty confident I have nothing to worry about though. Y'all on the other hand even after Ayton is long gone will continue to make excuses for the guy. It will bee fun to watch.garrick wrote:sunsbum wrote:garrick wrote:

Oh so you expect Ayton to be the difference maker not KD? That explains your strange obsession with Ayton and how you think this coming season will depend on Ayton to carry this team to a championship.

He just put up 15ppg against a bunch of yahoos being the number 1 or 2 option on the Bahamas. He aint that guy.

Nobody cares if you'll admit you were wrong. People are not angry(more like annoyed) because of 'any' criticism of DA, it's ALL hate from people like you. It's new situation for Ayton, a lot of things to motivate him for next season - new coach, real chance for a title, even a new contract coming soon. Yet your post shows you have already written him off. There is a chance he underperforms in which case I agree he'll be moved. Makes too much sense from financial and roster building perspectives.

angry/annoyed - stop splitting hairs. You realize that DA and his super fans are the ones that drive all this right? Deandre and frens are writing the books, I’m just over here reading ‘em.sunsbg wrote:sunsbum wrote:I'm like a kid smacking a beehive at this point, its fun to watch yall get angry over any criticism of DA. I guess we should stop splitting hairs on whether you're hard on DA or you're hard for DA.
SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Ayton is getting paid like a big boy too. I continue to say this, I know what I’m going to get consistently from Book, KD (and maybe Beal), no idea what version of DA we will ever see. Yes, he should have the same expectations as the other guys but he never does from people. I don’t get it.
He’s a big reason why the Suns have come short of winning a title the last 3 years - probably the biggest reason (next to CP3 always getting hurt).

That's a pretty poor take.
How about Booker stinking it up in elimination games as a reason the Suns haven't been able to win a championship? DA should get some blame for not dominating but it's not fair to put the blame solely on him.
Game 7 versus the Mavs and game 6 versus the nuggets it was a collective lack of effort that didn't let us advance.

Book has stunk it up in elimination games. That’s not like him. That’s a three game sample size, sucks those are the big games he comes up pretty short early in his career. Book has basically carried us in the playoffs though. I don’t have concerns there going forward with him.
DA can’t consistently do the simple things that we need him to do throughout the entire playoffs. The Dallas series was the most frustrating series. He should have really dominated in that series. It should have never got to a Game 7. Maxi freaking Kebler defended him. He should have punished them. DA hasn’t done much in the two elimination game he’s played either.
The workload between Book and DA is completely different though. Book is penciled in as the player the other team tries to stop, nobody fears DA. That’s the real issue. If DA was able to do more, it would unlock the Suns. Last year, imo, I think DA quit on us in the Denver series. It was sad. Maybe it was a Monty thing, we will see!

If you don't see the overall difference between the effort level and consistency of these two I'm not sure what to tell you.

Anyone going to watch USA vs Lithuania early morning? I think the game is at 5:40am which is much better than 2-3am like recently. Both teams are undefeated (4-0 record). Should be a hell of a game I expect Lithuania to hand team USA their first loss.

Should be a good one though I think both teams qualified for the knockout phase so the outcome is not that important.

Agreed! Btw, have you watched Ingram he has been struggling probably more than anyone on the US team. If he’s struggling against a bunch of no names internationally then what exactly will he show in the playoffs? In my eyes he’ll be a third option for the Pels behind McCollum & Zion unless he figures it out.

Ayton was a huge part of why we got over the Clippers in 2021 and he did have some good games vs Milwaukee, in 2022 he was a big part of why we beat the Pels after Book went out with his hamstring injury so it's not like he hasn't contributed at all during the playoffs.
He was invisible in the Mavs series and the Nuggets series I'll give you that though. My point is if we are expecting the Suns to finally win then KD, Book and Beal and their health are way more important than whether Ayton is going to score 30 with 20 rebounds in an elimination game.
If KD and Book stink it up in another elimination game I doubt Ayton can bail out the team unless he has like a monster 40 point 20 rebound game but he has shown us he isn't really a go to scorer and possibly might never be.

Group stage games are somewhat boring with these 20-30pt blowouts, so mostly watched a bit during work or parts of the games on replay, but as I wrote in Yuta thread Ingram is the most criticized player from team USA for lack of off ball skills. In NBA there is more space to showcase his style though, so I guess he's fine as a third option. A nice player, but very inconsistent too.
