On the one hand, he didn't cost much...

So this is a regular season depth signing and not much more. Doubt he even suits up in the playoffs

One doesn't need to, nor would anyone risk paying him under the table to sign him, he seems to be one of those players whose reputation is not very favorable around the league despite having offensive talent.
And the lakers are perfect team to rehab said image. See Malik monk

Not a high motor guy, a bit aloof but I saw him Last season in Dallas & he put out plenty of effort, defended the rim, shot well, got along w/Luka & just needs to be coached up & he can help a squad

The Lakers must have had all the info they needed courtesy of Duds, Kidd and all the ex-Lakers on the Mavs coaching staff so they must be banking on Wood not being too much of a drag around LeBron.
Wood really can't defend at C. When he was racking up minutes as a Piston, Thom Maker was the primary C.

LeBron will trade him before the deadline. He’a that bad of a player.

However, he's going to be basically Thomas Bryant. When Davis plays, he's either getting 15 mins max or not playing at all when we go for more defense, Hayes taking his spot.
Basically we're gonna have the Thomas Bryant/Wenyen Gabriel battle, but with Wood and Hayes.
He was signed for those 20-25 regular season games Davis will inevitable miss. I don't know if either he or Lebron will play in any back to backs this year and you just know an injury or two is inevitable for AD.
When that happens, you need some extra offense on the team from the frontcourt and Wood fits that bill.
Nothing more. He won't sniff PT in the playoffs if the Lakers get there and he won't start or sniff minutes next to AD at any time, like some expect. He's a DNP/backup most nights, starter when AD sits. That's it.
This. He’s a Thomas Bryant level signing..nothing more, nothing less. and as a laker fan, that comparison makes me very happy about this signing, considering the Lakers got some valuable reg season games out of Bryant last season when AD was hurt, and traded him for 3 second round picks.

This is an absolute steal. Wood for $2M is insane value. Wood for $30M isn't.
G - Russell | Vincent
G - Reaves | Christie or Reddish
F - James | Prince
F - Hachimura | Vanderbilt
C - Davis | Wood | Hayes
This team is stacked and pretty versatile. Amazing rebounding, playmaking, and shooting. They're still missing a bit of perimeter D, but Taurean Prince isn't some slouch on that end. Wouldn't even mind a Russell+Vando for Irving trade at this point (or February) to amp things up.

Re: Christian Wood signs 2-year deal with Lakers
I think this is a fantastic signing- for the price. It's a vet min, they literally couldn't pay him less (nor could they pay him any more either LOL.) His goal is going to be to outplay that contract and opt out and find a bigger and longer contract next offseason, while hopefully being part of a championship level squad.
At this price it doesn't matter if he's not a 100% dedicated team guy, doesn't play great defense, mainly just regular season depth, or whatever. They can really use another decently skilled big to keep AD fresh as possible during the course of the season, and he's definitely better than the big men they rolled out last year. He might also be a better or more positive net contributor as a 15 MPG role player than on 20-25 MPG.

No risk, high reward signing. Woods weaknesses are no secret, but I'm intrigued by his fit. He has never had a vet presence like Lebron or AD to reign him in, either he'll buy in or we'll get rid of his ass. Pelinka never left the kitchen.

He's not so much an impact player as just a guy who can fill a rotation hole and keep it from being a negative impact situation where you have to play guys who really shouldn't get minutes outside of garbage time.
And you need guys like that. He can fill in when Davis or James miss games in the regular season, score some points and help win some games. But your not going to see him on the floor during crunch time of a playoff game over Rui or Vanderbilt.

Um, he had plenty of vets in Milwaukee. Giannis was rooting for him.

Re: Christian Wood signs 2-year deal with Lakers
Some of you guys are so off base man. For the vet minimum, this is an amazing signing. He has proven to be a regular season work horse on bad teams and this Lakers squad desperately needs players to pick up the RS slack. In case people forgot, Bron is entering his age 39 season and AD has played an average of 44 games in the last 3 years since winning the chip. Learning how to become a pro under LeBron and a guy who plays his position in Anthony Davis is what he needs at this stage in his career. A prove it contract year at age 28.
His mind-set going into this year with the Lakers will be completely different then his stops in Houston and then Dallas. The fact that he was left unsigned until September despite putting up efficient numbers the last 3 years will become a reality check. He's averaged 18.1pts, 8.9reb, 2ast on 60.4%TS (51/38/67) in just 29.3mpg in those 3 years, so the offensive talent is clearly there.
Darvin Ham has the personnel on his roster to limit his defensive shortcomings. It's not hard to match his minutes alongside Vando and Prince for defensive purposes and take advantage of his PnR/PnP game with Reaves, Russell, or Gabe.

Its a great signing. Low risk, high reward. This roster is now arguably the deepest and most versatile in the league heading into the season. they are a legit threat to come out of the west.

If you guys think he’s a impact player I got news for you. He’s one of the worst defensive players in the league and he puts up empty stats. He’s only going to take a spot from a guy who can actually make a difference for the Lakers like someone who can guard Jokic like Mcgee or Dwight. He’s also going take minutes away from the guys already on the team who could make greater impact than him.
Decent troll attempt ..6/10
2020 begs to differ from your opinion. Im not saying they will stop him, but they will do a 100 times better job than Christian Wood.
