This is basically the same as Russ signing with the Clippers. The talent is there but there are obvious concerns, but all of those concerns are mitigated by the fact that the lakers dont NEED him, and they arent paying anything for him. when you are able to add a a talented player to an already fully formed roster without giving up anything to get him, there really is no downside.

It sounds like you're talking about Jordan Poole lol

He will add to the Lakers defensives woes. Jason Kidd has to have him come off the Mavs bench due to his poor defensive efforts and knowledge.

Great signing by the Lakers. Provides some scoring and versatility off the bench and the team has enough depth that they don't really have to lean on him to win - put him in if he's hot, pull him if he's not. Lakers know what they're getting in Wood, he's been around long enough to know his deficiencies/limitations and how to use him and when.

I like it.

Could get Lonnie Walker treatment midseason or get paid like Monk did for showcasing he can be in a winning situation

I think there’s def a risk when a player has been a issue in the locker room. Remember the stink he make in Dallas when he wasnt starting and got his minutes taken. His contract is also guaranteed if he makes the opening day roster so thats not much time. But I agree, he’s played with Harden, Luca, and Wall but thats not the same as playing with Lebron. I dont see him acting out but he could be another Harrell.

The lebron Lazarus tour still going strong. So many players who were on their way out suddenly find purpose

The reasons his minutes got reduced initially were perplexing. As I understand it, a lot of the Dallas media and fanbase was asking for more Wood minutes after his injury. Let's not act like that Kidd staff or the Mavs org are infallible or unbiased decision makers.

The numbers simply don't bear out that he's an atrocious defender. There's a lot of unwarranted character assassination going on in the media for people who either aren't looking close enough and just parroting others, or from people like Tim Macmahon who want to control narratives related to their beat.

Finally, situations aren't identical: Schroder demanded to start in LA in 2021, lost a bunch of money, sucked in Boston, then came back to LA and far outplayed his contract.

Well, might as well try him out. No harm no foul if it doesn't work

Yeah they can always Westbrook him if it's not working (ie. toss to the Clippers across Figueroa)

How are you RealGM status and think there wouldn't have already been a thread about this on the General Board by now? Lol

For a team that needs some more offense this makes sense, he has warts but he is very talented. Guy has yet to play for a good coaching situation so it's worth a try to see if Ham can find some gold here. He was an undrafted guy so he had to fight and claw to barely even make the roster of his first five teams. When he got discovered Dwane Casey was the coach and he didn't quite fit their timeline so they traded him to Houston, right when Harden was leaving and Silas was now the coach. And I'll tell you a lot of Wood's issues last year had to do with Jason Kidd

In a way yes, Lakers may not need him and can still compete without him, but if Ham finds a way to mask he weaknesses, maximize his strengths esp if AD sits about 20-25 games to keep him fresh for the playoffs. D'Lo and Rui combines for 30-40 points so they can also manage the load of Lebron for the playoffs, I think the Lakers have a much better chance of competing.
