Bucks Roster this year is objectively better

Post#1 » by Shaffty » Wed Sep 6, 2023 11:10 pm

2022 vs 2023 Bucks

Coaching:
Bud -> AG
Charles Lee -> Terry Stotts

Starters:
Giannis -> Giannis
injured khris -> healthy khris
Jrue -> Jrue
Brook -> Brook
Grayson -> Malik Beasley

Bench:
Bobby -> Bobby
PattyC -> PattyC
Injured Ingles -> Jae
Jevon -> Grayson
Hill -> TyTy Washington
Wes -> Marjon
Nwora -> Ajax
Meyers -> Rolo
Dragic -> Livingston
Thanasis -> Thanasis
AJ Green -> AJ Green

in bold are the changes and who I think are better from last year to this, Its pretty obvious we became younger losing

Jevon Carter 27 years old
Wes Mathews 36 years old
Joe Ingles 35 years old
George Hill 37 years old
Meyers Leonard 31 year old
Goran Dragic 37 years old
Serge Ibaka 33 years old

and replacing them with

Malik Beasley 26 years old
Tyty washington 21 years old
Andre Jackson Jr 21 years old
Chris Livingston 19 years old
Robin Lopez 35 years old

With an infusion of youth on top of a brand new coaching staff replacing argueably the worst head coach of all the true contenders in the league. How can you be anything but optimistic about this coming season?

Still think we're a shot creator away from making real noise.

I'm sorry but calling AG definitively better than Bud is wild. I know I'll go down as one of the biggest Bud defenders on this site, but the dude won an NBA championship 2 seasons ago, when he got here we immediately went from a mediocre playoff team to a legit title contender. Bud got several players to play at career best levels for him(Giannis, Brook, Pat, Jevon, just to name a few) AG is a complete unknown as a HC, there is absolutely no way AG can be considered better than Bud right now without him ever having coached a game

Also lol at saying Bud was worse than Mazzulla, Rivers, or Monty Williams

We don't know if AG can coach, and we don't know if at least four guys are NBA rotation worthy. We know Thanasis and Robin aren't.

I'll also add some of this seems like just being hopeful. I'm glad we added youth to this roster, it was much needed. But it's no certainty that TyTy, Livingston, or Ajax will be any good at all.

Betting on good seasons from the frontcourt bench bros, personally.

Griffin is going to end up being "arguably the worst head coach of all the true contenders in the league" too if his highest paid players continue to get hurt and be ass in the playoffs.

Just sayin'.

Season can't come soon enough. This just reminds me we still lack a true PG and could desperately use another sniper from outside

I like what they've done. It's not a swing for the fences to go all in but there's a clear vision to invigorate the team with youth.

I'm high on all these rooks

Post reads as pure optimism, which I like. As we all know: eventually, optimists win.

I don't think it adequately describes two critical differences. One is that our returning players are all a year older, which is probably good in some cases (pretty much all on you, MarJon), but probably not good in much more important cases (Brook, Jrue). I'll give you that I expect Khris to have a better season, but I also think his minutes are going to be managed aggressively from here on out.

The second difference is that these young players we got this year, with the exception of Dre, are not the kind of young players I'd expect to contribute to a winning NBA team right now. Those outgoing guys did.

The fact that nobody posted a Bucks Roster this year is objectively worse thread that was copy and pasted with the arrows going the other way is absurd.

"Objectively" is a word doing a lot of heavy lifting in any post about the team this year before they play a single game.

i dont think "better" is the right word. we were the one seed last season. regardless of how it finished, we had a very good roster. but aside from some fun Ingles nights, the roster was much of the same formula from previous seasons.

"more interesting" is definitely a phrase i would use. at least early in the season, we can look forward to seeing some of the new guys try and prove themselves. no idea if the coach is good. no idea what it's going to look like. all i care about is healthy giannis and eventually getting another dynamic playmaker to put next to him.

Only area we clear upgraded in my opinion is Beasley over Grayson. Grayson's problem is that he needed so much time and clearance to get those shots up. It never flowed with the offense, despite his good percentages. Beasley is a proven volume scorer/chucker, who doesn't need a lot of space to make things happen.

Backup PG is a complete crapshoot. Jevon was really good in the regular season in his role. We have completely unproven guys to replace him.

Still have no idea on the coaching. Griffin being a new voice is what Giannis wanted. Could pay off big. Stotts could pay off big. Then again, Bud had a decade long track record of getting teams to overachieve in the regular season. One of the best in NBA history.

Losing Jevon’s on ball defense combined with his 3pt shooting hurts, hopefully Dre can step into that role and be more switchable.
34 year old Brook had a great season, hopefully 35 year old Brook can keep it going.
Healthy Mids is the key to our season.
I like the younglings we’ve added, probably a few years away from paying off.
I like coach Griff but probably a few rough years ahead for him while he settles into the role.
The east is weaker this year hopefully we can stay healthy and take advantage

Let me deep you into reality ... our already old roster is one year older . Slowest roster in the universe... Some WNBA teams are probably faster

2 main things will be:
-Middleton. Can he be that clutch 4th quarter scorer like he was when we won it all
-Coach. Is he better playoff coach comparing to Bud

Offcourse, as always, we will need to be healthy in playoffs but that is true for all teams.

I do like the optomism, but the impact is more top heavy with the starters, so it's about what level can jrue, khris, brook reach in the playoffs as they continue to age past their prime (and giannis health).

Coach is an unknown, and youngsters contributing on the edges hopefully give some spark when needed come playoff time.

If I'm being objective? No.

The important distinction to point out though? Much like each of the last two champions since us (Denver, Golden State). We didn't necessarily need to.
