Super low (defensive) bar but he's at least playable next to AD

Not a bad comparison. He's a little smaller than Thomas but he's more athletic and a better shooter. Thomas had his best defensive season on the Lakers last year so hopefully the same can be said for Wood this year.

Thomas was a likable, great locker room kinda guy and that has been the issue with Wood. Hopefully I'm wrong and this is a better signing than I initially anticipated but I'm still not getting my hopes up yet.

The Miami Heat have no interest in signing Christian Wood, not even on minimum salary.

Other than injuries or if the Lakers really need some scoring, I don't see Wood getting much playing time. I wouldn't be surprised at regular DNPs.

Thomas Bryant was effective, high energy and rebounded, but he never saw the floor before other Lakers got injured because of his defense. Lots of Lakers don't get minutes because of their defense. I don't see that changing with Wood

High risk low reward?
They got him for the minimum and didn't have to give up any asset to acquire him, how is that high risk? They can simply order him to not show up if he fails miserably and this team would be all right.
Low reward? If he manage to play decent defense while shooting his normal 38% from 3, then this team would be much better.

I meant to say high reward low risk lol, forgot to edit it.

Well yeah, that's why we signed him for. People really overestimate the role he'll have on this team.

Again, Davis is probably skipping at least 10 back to backs and has averaged 44 games played for the past 3 years. Even if he gets to 60 somehow, that's still 22 games missed.

Lakers only had Jaxon Hayes as the other big beside Davis on the roster. You can't play Hayes 40 mins a game when Davis sits.

He's a backup and will play backup minutes whenever all the team is available. Maybe even get DNP's since there's not enough meat left for both he and Hayes. They will probably alternate as the backup 5 based on matchups.
And will have an increased role when Davis sits. That's it.
Nobody on the Lakers expect him to be some kind of savior and key playoffs contributor so I don't get why so many people get defensive about this signing.
