lol how are we still talking about offense when defense was clearly where this iteration of team usa fell short

Exactly. Zero size and rebounding, Austin Reaves being most targetted player on D in the tournament, and you still want someone like Trae, thats complete opposite of what this team needed, like you cant be more wrong saying this team needed Trae Young. This team Needed bigs and guys who are not defensive liability.

You can put Trae in the PG while adding size in the pertimer and frontcourt. Patty Mills (liability in the defensive end but nonetheless a great scorer) proved that with Australia when they bronze at Tokyo Olympics.

Weird times for USA basketball, the 2019 I think was decently worse than this one and this one just sucked hard. Lost every game to a good sqaud.

LBJ and AD and Curry won't go. They didn't even go to the last one.

KD? He's the all time Olympics scorer and multi winner so the last one was likely the last hurrah in international play.

Tatum, Booker, Brown are expected. There's still a lot of talent. The previous team had several international team vets. Now Tatum and Booker have to do some recruiting.

Great group of guys hoping to see Jamal and Wiggins on the Olympic team.

People had been saying that Canada had arrived for the past 5-6 years. They finally did this year. They were really good and earned this medal.

To be fair the biggest issue was always commitment. It's easier to call up guys for the Olympics than it is for a pre-qualifying tournament which with all due respect is part of what the FIBA World Cup is.

Olympics for International Basketball is what the World Cup is for International Soccer. When we think of the dream team or the redeem team it wasn't during the FIBA World Cup.

Patty is the ultimate team mate. There's a reason why he's there despite the bad D.

Trae wasn't chosen last time either. It should tell you something about what type of character coaches want in an endeavor like this.

canada really needs wiggins defense in the olympics if they want to have a shot. murray and others would be great but they are too small.

Well it's a matter of making players value it more. The pool of players to choose from for WC or Olympics is greater for the latter. I guess it's on the USA Basketball program to instill that importance and pride in representing your country at the WC earlier in grassroots. Also, more emphasis on team game. NBA is very much about individual talent and for some the buy in to team first doesn't stick. They can't adjust mentality or accept role well. For sure work to be done.

But the international experience of representing your country and bonding with your team mates for a common goal at the WC and Olympics is really something that should spread in terms of a desired experience. Like these guys on Team Canada are bonded for life for achieving something not done before.

Team USA has a ton of different expectations that carry their own weight. Probably has more scrutiny than any other team. Always pressure to be the best and anything less is disappointing. That's the standard achieved when international opponents were not as good as they are today. So it's extra pressure from past achievements and present competition levels.

It wasn't just the USA that didn't have all their players available.

I understand that big stars, or players at the end of their contract, don't want to play in the World Cup. I don't know why the other players, from all the national teams, don't want to play too. Strange how a player like Rui Hachimura didn't want to participate when the first phase would be played at home.

Maybe FIBA should increase the prize pools.

With full squads, the USA should win easily, but the gap narrows.

Coming from a Soccer first background, its the same thing with their World Cup/Olympics to the point they just just demoted Olympics Soccer to an U-23 tournament. One is priotized over the other as if you can't have 2 different trophies representing World Champions.

For NBA players the only World Gold that mattered was and is the Olympic Gold.

Yeah theyll have an awesome team for sure just wonder how many top tier guys want to play tho. I admit I could see Curry health permitting suiting up. It's the one thing he hasn't done in his basketball career. So there would be some appeal for him.

Yeah maybe all the more so given that Kerr is the coach, good point about Curry. Depends, too, on how deep GSW season is as well perhaps.

Reminder: this was basically Canada's B team, Lithuania's B team, Serbia without the friggin NBA FMVP, Latvia without their best player, and Greece without Giannis.
