Olympics may have the more prestige, at least for American players but WC is usually a higher level tournament. There are quite a few quality European teams but not enough berths for European teams at the Olympics.

It is The World Cup.
It crowns The World Champion.

Weird times for USA basketball, the 2019 I think was decently worse than this one and this one just sucked hard. Lost every game to a good sqaud.

It will be a better roster for sure. USA basketball never takes the FIBA World Cup more seriously than the Olympics.

Reminder: this was basically Canadas B team, Lithuania's B team, Serbia without the friggin NBA FMVP, Latvia without their best player.

Canada and Serbia will definitely be better and be favorites alongside the USA. The Baltic nations are good but I don't think they have enough talent to medal.

The olympics will be a different beast but God damn so proud of this group of guys. This should really of been the finals game but ah well, Germany and Serbia both played well.

So proud of our boys and our country.

I know canada wants to reward players who already committed but when you have the chance to work into the lineup sharpe, malthurin, nemhard, wiggins, murray you have to do it.

Just watched the game and will post my vids later.

Haliburton is overrated. All he do is to push the pace to strengthen USA’s small ball. But he’s not someone you can count on in the halfcourt.

SGA was pacing. And Canada made the right call to let Brooks cook and when USA gets serious down the stretch Canada saved a lot of SGA ammo. SGA is more than a level above Brunson and Haliburton.

SGA made the right decision to not hunt Reaves down the stretch but USA made the wrong decision not to send help on Barrett and Brooks attacking Reaves. Ingram being a negative and Brunson underperforming hurts the USA in this tourney

Just had dinner and about to watch the second game now here

Well, obviously Canada just has a lot more nationalist, patriotic ra-ra sentiment than Americans do. They know they can't win the Olympics so they really get up for the world cup, while the US is too cool to care. That and the two years that brooks and Barrett went to the same high school, they've been playing together their whole lives!! The US is so good they can reach the medal games without even trying, just imagine if they did!

(Am I doing it right?)

Hali, Reaves, Ant, Mikal were the obvious 4 best players for team USA.

Keeping those 4 and surrounding by 8 more player upgrades for Olympics is probably what happens.

This is a team sport. When you just bring a collection of players who have talent and hope it all meshes, it doesn't work. Canada has one very good player they built around and have what looks like a team, even if the talent isn't as good. The same goes for Germany. Canada lost to Serbia for the same reason but I do think they have a better team structure than USA, even though their big men crop is very weak.

Also, the USA no longer has the young superstar crop they used to have - I see a lot of manufactured or media hyped stars on that team, but how many if any are legit stars? Maybe having a guy like Fox or Tatum would have made a difference, but really they don't have superstar talent like their aging stars in Curry, Durant, James, anymore.

I see a lot of excuses being made here about how other teams just get up for it more. I assure you USA was trying to win lol.

Murray will definitely be there, and I think Wiggins created enough rapport in previous tournaments to justify a ticket, but based off Jordi's interview it looks like any other of these guys looking to join Paris next summer are going to have to have a big year.

Mathurin is the only guy in a position capable of doing that this season.

Also Micic and Kalinic who are top players at their positions in FIBA.

And Raptors new head coach Rajaković is Serbian. He should have coached the Canadian national team. Serbian coaches Canada, Canadian coaches Germany, former German national team coach coaches Serbia. Full circle.

I think the time has finally come for German basketball to be crowned, but Servia is frighteningly consistent.

Its debatable. Olympics have 12 teams, of which 8-10 are competitive, right? Only Asian and African teams are meh. Also, all top teams usually have more best players, because players skip Olympics less often.

WC, this format WC, has 32 teams, but at least half of those are pure pedestrians. We saw how boring first phase was, just blowout after blowout. Top teams also has worse rosters, cause players skip WC often, as we saw this year.

I mean I can see how you would like WC more because it has more teams, its purely basketball tournament, tournament level is in fact high, I like the production, it doesnt get lost withing other 100 events that day. Just the latent level is far worse.

The competition will be happy if the US select Haliburton and Reaves again…

Have to love world basketball.

There is legit 10-15 teams there that can all beat each other on the day.
