Most interesting is how high Latvia will go in the next FIBA Rankings, as that affects the seeding/pots for the Olympic Qualifiers.

I wonder what the roster will look like for team USA next summer. Will they have Bron, Butler, Booker, Tatum, KD, AD, Curry? Have their been vocal commitments from any of those guys?

Weird times for USA basketball, the 2019 I think was decently worse than this one and this one just sucked hard. Lost every game to a good sqaud.

LBJ and AD and Curry won't go. They didn't even go to the last one.

KD? He's the all time Olympics scorer and multi winner so the last one was likely the last hurrah in international play.

Tatum, Booker, Brown are expected. There's still a lot of talent. The previous team had several international team vets. Now Tatum and Booker have to do some recruiting.

Lebron may go if he decides to retire at the end of the season. For someone who is as much into bulding an image for himself, winning the Olympics final as your last professional game is a great story...

I guess someone already calculated that, its a formula, they lose 0 points since 8 years ago they did nothing, I dont know how much they will gain, but WC has the highest multiplier (2.5, compared to Olympic 2.0 or EUrobaskets 1.0). They will be gaining some points.

He and AD have a been there, done that mindset about the Olympics now. Don't count on their commitment. Time for younger generation to step up.

This is a team sport. When you just bring a collection of players who have talent and hope it all meshes, it doesn't work. Canada has one very good player they built around and have what looks like a team, even if the talent isn't as good. The same goes for Germany. Canada lost to Serbia for the same reason but I do think they have a better team structure than USA, even though their big men crop is very weak.

Also, the USA no longer has the young superstar crop they used to have - I see a lot of manufactured or media hyped stars on that team, but how many if any are legit stars? Maybe having a guy like Fox or Tatum would have made a difference, but really they don't have superstar talent like their aging stars in Curry, Durant, James, anymore.

I see a lot of excuses being made here about how other teams just get up for it more. I assure you USA was trying to win lol.

This is it. We just don’t have the best players in the world anymore. We have depth but the best players aren’t American. Just have to get used to it and develop our talent better.

Canada is such a well balanced team.

I mean, “everything goes through SGA” doesn’t scream balanced haha.

Canada had good ball movement and team offense for most of the tournament. In some of their worst games it became a bit of the Shai show (against Brazil and to a lesser extent, Spain), or the Shai/Olynk show (against Latvia), but when Canada played well they had a ton of passing and tons of guys empowered to attack. When things weren't going smoothly, they would look to Shai to bail them out.

What is USA's excuse this game? Team Canada is just as inexperienced in FIBA as them

Can’t win when your alpha is Anthony Edwards and your opponent is trotting out SGA.

While having the best player is definitely an advantage, I don't think that's why USA couldn't win. No one ever stopped the USA offense. Even in this game, the US scored at least 24 points in every quarter. People keep pointing at USA's talent or their stars and ignoring this team couldn't defend to save their lives. Switching everything, letting opponents attack with advantage, playing small without rebounding (or shot blocking when they didn't have JJJ or Kessler out there)... this USA team with better defense probably would have gone undefeated. Swap out Ant for Tatum (or Curry or whatever star you want), I don't see how that changes anything. Besides Tatum (and I actually think it's close), I don't think the USA has a star under 30 that's better than Shai.
